Status Quo for NEA Funding in Short-term Congressional Budget Bill Passage
Anticipating the transition to a new Administration in January, Congress approved a short-term budget bill that keeps most things the same, and that includes funding for the National Endowment for the Arts.  There is considerable uncertainty about where the Trump Administration stands regarding funds for the NEA and other cultural agencies, but two of the President-Elect's Cabinet nominees have strong philanthropic connections to the arts and two past Congressional arts supporters remain in key leadership positions.  Read more from the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies here.

Oakland Fire Prompts Santa Ana to Inspect Local Warehouse Arts Spaces
Artist studio spaces in Santa Ana are getting the once over by the City's code enforcement department in the wake of the tragic Oakland warehouse arts space fire, according to this story in the OC Register.  In an updated story today, one of them, the Advertising Arts Building, has had its basement "red tagged," requiring additional remediation beyond the sprinkler system already installed by the landlord. Santa Ana is a magnet for artists seeking affordable studios and "live/work" spaces, which are in short supply throughout the region.  A 58-unit adaptive re-use project that will offer housing for artists and their families, Santa Ana Arts Collective, is currently under construction at 1666 Main Street.

Both began their new roles with the Symphony this fall.
