2017
GA-SC Junior Girls Team
Challenge Matches

Debordieu Club
August 5-6, 2017

19 points - 17 points

The weather was perfect and their putters were hot!  All matches started out steady on the front, a few birdies, pars, bogey's; except one, match 5 - Tess Davonport, Burford, GA vs Katie Whitfield, Clemson, SC.  Davonport was on fire out of the gate going 3 under in the first 5 holes, following it up with 3 more birdies to take all 3 points for Georgia. 4&2/4&2/7&5

South Carolina's Baylee Evans, Lancaster, SC, also swept her match today against Georgia's Louise Yu from Duluth, GA.  Evans took the match to the 18th hole, with 3 birdies and draining a 5 foot putt on 18 to win all 3 points.  Evans and Davonport were the only two players that earned 6 points each for their teams.   1 up/1 up/2 &1.

Rachel Rich, Mount Pleasant, SC played steady in her first appearance in the GA-SC Matches, having 1 bogey and 8 pars on the front side to split the point.  Caroline Craig, Sautee Nacoochee,  remained steady on the back shooting even par to secure 2 points for the Georgia Team.   All Square/3&2/3&2

Rock Hill's Jodee Tindal started off 4 down through 5 holes in her match against Elisa Yang, Norcross, GA.  Then fired back, with back to back birdies to get edged out of the front nine 1 down.  Staying even with Yang, Tindal just couldn't get ahead, splitting the back nine point and losing the over total point.   1 down, All Square, 1 down.

Thirteen year old Isabella Rawl, Lexington, SC match became a battle of will for both her and Georgia's Carol Pyon, Macon.  The scorecard was back and forth with each player being as much as 3 up or down through out the day.  Rawl had 3 birdies on the back nine and drained a 20 foot putt on 18 to split the back nine point and over all 3 points evenly with Pyon, 1 1/2 points per team.   1 down/1 up/ All Square.

South Carolina's 3 point lead, from round one, going into today and with the great play from the first 5 matches, all eyes were on the final group. 2017 South Carolina State Girls Junior Champion, Gracyn Burgess - Lexington, vs 2017 Georgia State Girls Junior Champion, Ivy Shepherd - Peach Tree.  Between the two players one bogey by Shepherd was carded on the front and the rest pars for Burgess to take the front nine point.  Then is got interesting, birdies were flying everywhere, Burgess birding holes 11, 12, and 17; Sheperd holes 11, 13, 15, and draining a 6 foot putt on 18 for her 4th birdie on the back to go 1 up and secure the back nine and total points for Georgia.  Giving Georgia the Win of the 12th Annual GA - SC Team Challenge Matches and the Karen Ferree Trophy.   1 up/2 down/ 1 down

It was a great weekend of fantastic golf, team bonding, making new friends, and unforgettable memories.  Thank you again to Debordieu Club, Members of Debordieu Club, amazing Golf Shop Staff, Food and Beverage, and Grounds Crew.  A special thank you to John & Sarah Murphy, Janet Rockey, Rick & Bonnie Danser, and Carl & Lois Fisher for opening your home to all the players and captains.
