November 4, 2017 - November 12, 2017
City Offices Closed for General Election - Tuesday, November 7 is the very important day when we have the chance to cast our vote in the General Election.  All city offices will be closed, including the 18th District Court.  Trash and Recycling pick up will not be effected. If you are unsure about the location of your voting precinct or would like to view your ballot before going to the polls, you can do so at www.cityofwestland.com.  Your vote is your voice, so be sure to make yourself heard in this historical presidential election.  


Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

City Council
  • The Westland City Council will meed on Monday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. inside council chambers of Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

Police and Fire Civil Service Commission
  • The Police and Fire Civil Service Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 8 at 9:30 a.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
Planning Commission
  • The Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
City Offices Closed in Observance of Veterans Day - In observance of the federal holiday, all city offices, the 18th District Court and the Westland Library will be closed on Friday, November 10.  Trash and recycling pickup will not be affected.
 
Veterans Day -  Veterans Day is Saturday, November 11.  That is the day that has been set aside since 1919 as a day to honor and pay respect to veterans who serve in our armed forces.    On Veterans Day, the Westland Veterans Association will hold a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Garden.  Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend as residents, government officials, and most importantly, America's Veterans and their families gather to commemorate the occasion.  The ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Veterans Memorial Garden behind the Westland Library.

The City is served by two public school districts; Wayne-Westland Community Schools serving 12,000 youth was recently named one of the Best School in Michigan by WXYZ-TV and is the proud recipient of 14 Golden Apple and two Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.  Livonia Public Schools, educating nearly 15,000 students, is proud of their MEAP/MME scores that exceed state averages and the District has also earned Golden Apple and Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.
