Happy Holidays!
December 6, 2016
Dear Members and Fellow Pain Warriors,

As the holidays arrive and 2016 comes to a close, we at the U.S. Pain Foundation would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones the happiest of holidays and give our sincere thanks for all of the support and help you have provided us over the past year. We are truly honored to have such a strong, passionate, caring community to turn to.

We hope each of you able to enjoy your holidays and time with loved ones this season.  As always, we want to remind you that the U.S. Pain Foundation is here for you throughout this holiday season. We will continue fighting alongside of you throughout your journey, and will never stop advocating for you.

Wishing you high-spirits and low-pain throughout the season,

Understanding Opioid-Induced Constipation

As the largest advocacy-based organization in the country, the U.S. Pain Foundation is committed to working toward positive change that directly impacts the pain community.  As we continue to put an emphasis on changing how healthcare professionals, insurance companies, legislators and government perceive chronic pain, we need your help.
Your voices and personal experiences matter. Furthermore, they make a significant difference in influencing how chronic pain is treated.
We would like to thank you in advance for taking a few moments of your time to answer our survey on Opioid Induced Constipation: Patient perspectives, understanding and unmet needs. Please note this survey is open only to people who are:
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Have pain that is chronic (lasting more than 90 days) and is not caused by cancer
  • Are prescribed opioids for non-cancer chronic pain
  • Have constipation caused by the opioids, occurring at least 15 days per month
Remember, there are no wrong answers -- we just ask that you be completely open and honest.  It is our policy to keep all survey responses anonymous.  Please act now as the survey ends at the end of the week!

Positivity Photo Challenge

U.S. Pain is excited to share a photo challenge Miss Teen International, Garin Harris, and Dr. Heather Gilmore created for us to end this year on a positive note.
Each day in December, US Pain will share a new  Positivity Photo Challenge.  The goal: more  positive self-talk, community outreach and love, and further emotional strength.
Please share and participate in U.S. Pain's photo
challenge that we hope spreads
more joy, cheer and positivity through the holiday season.

Invisible Beauty in Pain

The KNOWvember Art Gallery titled  Invisible Beauty in Pain  was an incredible success in raising awareness about chronic pain in a creative way. Partnering with 540WMain, whose curator is Pain Ambassador Calvin Eaton of New York, U.S. Pain Foundation was honored to support this artistic initiative during the month of KNOWvember.

The artwork featured from this unique gallery was generously donated by artists connected to or living with an invisible illness.

The pieces are available for purchase online, with 100% of the proceeds to benefit both 540WMain and U.S. Pain. Please click on the link to view the available works from our talented artists.
Tewksbury Teen Starts Charity For Children Suffering From Chronic Pain
TEWKSBURY TWP. - A local boy who understands the physical pain many people are forced to live with decided to do something about it by starting his own charity at the young age of 14 raising thousands of dollars to help children suffering chronic pain.
The youth, Tyler Cashman, an eighth grader at Old Turnpike Middle School, began his campaign to fight the effects of chronic pain more than a year ago.
For several years he had seen his mother, Casey Cashman, live with chronic pain, and watched as she turned her own physical problems into a cause to help others. Cashman felt he should be doing his share. He started Points for Pain.
"My mom has pain," said Tyler Cashman. "I've seen my mom struggle. That motivated me."
Casey Cashman, a single mom, was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSDS) in 2008. Tyler Cashman watched as his mother focused her energy on helping others, all the while learning a virtue more valuable than compassion. The virtue of empathy.
