Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Planning Commission
  • The Planning Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  

All American Farmers and Artisans Marketplace - There will be NO Farmers Market this week due to Blues, Brews and BBQ.  The Farmers Market will resume normal operations on Thursday, August 3.

Blues Brews and BBQ -  Blues, Brews and BBQ is Westland's most highly anticipated annual event.  This year, the event is moving just north of its former location and will take place right on Ford Rd. to offer more parking and shaded areas.  As in years past, the access to the event is free of charge and food and refreshments will be available for purchase.   The event will feature professional pit-master BBQ'ers to offer good ol' fashioned slow-cooked, authentic BBQ and tasty finger foods as well as some non-barbecue favorites.   Vendors who have signed on to participate include Heaven on a Roll, Hill Billy Bone BBQ, Smoke Ring BBQ, Stick a Pig in it, Uncle Bebe's Barbecue, Grindstone Smokehouse, Famous Daves, The Grill Fathers Ribs & BBQ, Harold Ole Daddy BBQ, Detroit Mini Donut and Lemonade, Harvest Kettle Corn, Heavenly Hot Dog, Maniaci Pizza and On the Border.   Once again the 2-day event boasts an impressive lineup of musical guests.  The event is kicked off on Friday, August 4 at 5:00 p.m. with Roadside Rick and the Breakdowns followed by The Boa Constrictors at 7:00 p.m. and Detroit Soul Revue at 9:00 p.m.  On Saturday, August 5 the music starts with 4:00 p.m. with Front Street, Bobby Murray Band at 6:00 p.m. and then crowd favorite, Thornetta Davis, is returning to bring the house down as this year's headliner at 8:30 p.m.   8 ice cold taps will be pouring 8 different craft and domestic beers, sure to please everyone.  Hate standing in line?  A fast tap pass is available for purchase that allows you to skip the beer line for only $10.  
New this year is access to the House of Blues which includes an upgraded event experience complete with private seating with restrooms and prime view of the stage.  Tickets for the House of Blues can be purchased for $20 at the event.

All American Firework Show - Back by popular demand is one of the biggest and most spectacular firework shows in the area.  This show concludes this year'sBlues, Brews and BBQ but attendance to the event is not required to view the show.  The musically choreographed fireworks show begins at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5.   
 

H20 Zone Open for the Summer Season - Westland's H20 Zone Splash Pad is officially open for the summer season.  The H2O Zone is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The cost is $3 for Westland residents.  Season passes are available for purchase for up to 6 family members for a resident is $40.00 and for a non-resident $100.00.  Group Rates up to 10 people for residents is $25.00 and $80.00 for non-residents.  For more information please contact Parks and Recreation at 734-467-7902. 

Saturday in the Park -  Wayne County Parks' Saturday in the Park program has returned. Each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., visitors can walk, run, skate or cycle safely along six miles of Hines Drive. Hines Drive will be shut down o vehicular traffic from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive so that guests have the opportunity to participate in their favorite activities in a vehicle-free environment. The Saturday in the Park program will take continue every Saturday through September 30. All ages are encouraged to participate.  Parking is available at the Hines Park-Helms Haven Area (Hines Drive, west of Outer Drive) and Hines Park-Nankin Mills Picnic Area (Hines Drive, east of Ann Arbor Trail).  For more information about Saturday in the Park or any other Wayne County Parks program, please call (734) 261-1990.
