Going Where the People Are
This time of year there are many community events and many ways to help reach out to people in need. These o
pportunities are immense if only Jesus followers
would see the needs that are truly all around them. We, however, keep our eyes closed to the many poor and homeless that surround our city. I hear comments on Facebook about the homeless and how local residents don't want them in their neighborhoods or backyard. Well, they are here regardless of what people think and they are not going away. We even avoid crowds this time of year thinking that we'd rather not be around so many people. If only we would realize that we are truly living in the middle of an
abundant field of people who need Jesus. We need only to seek ways of connecting and serving them.
Jesus intentionally spent his time around the crowds and people of the villages. These people were the poor, the sick and even the socially outcast. These were the kind of people that some today have said they don't want in their neighborhood! The calling for all Jesus people is to love others and to serve those in need. This is what it means to follow Jesus! It means we must leave our comfort zones and go into places that are unfamiliar and engage people different than ourselves. "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
Jackson Park- Ghost Train Event Connected with Hundreds of Families
On Saturday, October 28th Ekklesia workers set up four canopies in Jackson Park and provided a carnival experience for the hundreds of families that attended the event. Each year the Foster Care Association of Kitsap County hosts the Ghost Train event in Jackson Park in order to raise money for their services to foster children. Ekklesia members connected with hundreds of families and answered many questions about our church and also the tiny cottage project we are involved with. Public community events offer excellent opportunities to spread the mission of Jesus and connect with the crowds. This was Jesus' method of ministry as he moved about Judea and blessed people wherever he could. Thank you to all the workers who helped with set up, and with the carnival games that we provided.
