Common Skin Growths
Skin Tags

Skin tags are painless, noncancerous growths on the skin. They're connected to the skin by a small, thin stalk called a peduncle. Skin tags are common in both men and women, especially after age 50. They can appear anywhere on your body, though they're commonly found in places where your skin folds such as the:
  • armpits
  • groin
  • thighs
  • eyelids
  • neck
  • area under your breasts
Tiny skin tags may rub off on their own but most stay attached to your skin. In general, skin tags don't require treatment but if skin tags hurt or bother you, you may opt to have them removed.
  • Cryotherapy: Freezing the skin tag with liquid nitrogen.
  • Surgical removal: Removing the skin tag with scissors or a scalpel.
  • Electrosurgery: Burning off the skin tag with high-frequency electrical energy.
Cherry Angioma

Cherry angiomas are common skin growths that can develop on most areas of your body.
They are usually found on people aged 30 and older. The broken blood vessels inside a cherry angioma give them a reddish appearance.

A cherry angioma is often bright red, circular or oval in shape, and small - ranging in size from a pinpoint to one-fourth of an inch in diameter. Some cherry angiomas appear smooth and even with your skin, while others appear slightly raised. They most often grow on the torso, arms, and shoulders.

You probably won't need to have a cherry angioma treated, but you do have the following options if you want it removed for cosmetic reasons:
  • Electrocauterization
  • Cryosurgery
  • Shave Excision
Another reason for removal might be because it is in an area that is easily bumped, which can lead to regular bleeding.  This type of skin growth is typically not a cause for concern unless it changes, this could be a sign of skin cancer.

INFINI is a new dimension in radiofrequency (RF) technology used to address sagging skin, wrinkles, skin textural changes. INFINI combines fractional radiofrequency technology with microneedling. As opposed to other radiofrequency platforms that treat the skin from the outside in, INFINI uses flow needle technology to deliver RF where it needs to be - the dermis. The dermis, our second layer of the skin, contains collagen - the supporting structure of our skin. By delivering heat energy from RF to the dermis, INFINI encourages collagen growth and tissue tightening precisely at predetermined depths in the skin. This procedure can greatly improve wrinkling, scars, and skin laxity.

What are Seborrheic Keratoses?
A seborrheic keratosis is a type of skin growth. They can be unsightly, but the growths aren't harmful. However, in some cases a seborrheic keratosis can be difficult to distinguish from melanoma, a very serious type of skin cancer.

A seborrheic keratosis is usually easily identified by appearance. Multiple lesions may appear, although at the beginning there may be just one.

Locations there are often found, although they can come up anywhere on the body, except on the soles of the feet or the palms.
  • chest
  • scalp
  • shoulders
  • back
  • abdomen
Texture:

Growths often start out as small, rough areas. Over time, they tend to develop a thick, wart-like surface. They're often described as having a "stuck-on" appearance.
They may also look waxy and have slightly raised surfaces.

Shape:

Growths are usually round or oval-shaped.

Color:

Growths are usually brown, but they can also be yellow, white, or black.

Causes:
  • Older age
  • Family member with Seborrheic Keratosis
  • Frequent sun exposure
Treatments:

In many cases, a seborrheic keratosis doesn't need treatment. However, your provider may decide to remove a growth that has a suspicious appearance or cause physical or emotional discomfort.
  • Cryosurgery, the growth is frozen off using liquid nitrogen.
  • Electrosurgery uses an electrical current to scrape the growth off. The area is numbed before the procedure.
