Happy Halloween!
GGUSD students participated in Halloween festivities at their schools, including costume contests, pumpkin decorating competitions, and Trunk or Treats. Pictured here: A Garden Grove High School Argonaut dressed up as a Pepsi vending machine and Hazard Elementary School students look adorable in their Starbucks costumes.
Excelling with eSports

Nearly 125 La Quinta High School students competed in a cutting-edge eSport tournament held at the school last week. The winning team, Rizette, from La Quinta will go on to compete at a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) sponsored eSport tournament on November 11 at the University of California, Irvine.
$2,000 in Two Minutes

Pacifica High School’s Navy JROTC and ASB students teamed up with Combat Radio to raise more than $2,000, in two minutes with help from Mariner students and staff, for the Combat Radio Breakfast to provide food and gifts for homeless children. For more information, click here .
Creative Fundraiser

McGarvin Intermediate School ASB students held a creative fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. Students sold pieces of pink tape and taped their ASB President to the wall for a fun photo.
Parent Engagement

GGUSD Board of Education Trustee Walter Muneton visited Peters 4-6 Elementary School to connect with parents and check out the students pumpkin decorating contest.
School Nurse of the Year

Susan Lin, one of two GGUSD School Readiness Nurses (SRN) funded by the Children and Families Commission of Orange County, was selected as the 2016-17 SRN of the year. Susan, and her fellow SRN Marti Russell, coordinate the Clinton Corner Family Campus Health and Resource Fair held at the campus every October. They also have developed a partnership with the UCI Eye Mobile which provides eye exams and glasses for preschool and TK students in GGUSD. Last year we provided new glasses to 139 students! Our SRNs also provide a variety of health screenings to over 1,000 preschool students every year. We are very fortunate to have them as part of our State Preschool Program!
