As a teacher of YES Classes you will provide the participants a safe space to relax and let go. Through the specially designed Class format & class messages of self care and nurturing, with the use of numerous proven tools, you will help students to feel empowered to take care of themselves when faced with difficult emotional situations.

Pose of the Month
Savasana
Corpse Pose 

   Savasana is done at the end of every yoga class.  The sanskrit word sava (pronounced shava) means  corpse. To avoid using the word "corpse", Erin calls it "the final relaxation" Pose. Commonly, it's done on the back, palms up, and toes falling out to the side.  Sometimes the head and back of thighs are supported to provide more relaxation. The goal of savasana is to find a very relaxed state of mind and body. In this practice, use the breath to access the healing and resting mechanisms in the body - the parasympathetic nervous system.

Ideally, a relaxed body on it's back would be comfortable flat, the back of head would rest just behind the eyes, the shoulder girdle would be heaviest at the bra-line, shoulder blades and butt cheeks would feel soft and comfortable on the floor, and the back of the thighs would rest on the floor.  Alas, because of daily stress and activities our bodies move out of this ideal alignment. Yoga and MELT Method classes at Liberty Yoga are specifically designed to help you reestablish your best posture.

Great News!  Monique is already certified as a MELT Level 1 & 2 instructor and a Neruostrength instructor!  Erin is now certified as a MELT level 1 instructor.  Both of them are so excited to try new techniques to help you relieve pain, achieve more, and find optimal posture!   
 
Why MELT?  
This is a gentle and pleasant self acupressure technique.  It relieves "stuck stress" in the body that comes with repetitive movements or working in a desk job.  It is one of the most effective ways to gently relieve chronic pain and to improve posture!

Couscous Salad!  
With Jane Wren and Erin Sweeney Detwiler

This lovely salad was submitted to us by one of our members - Jane Wren.  It's a wonderful vegan salad!  Thanks Jane for thinking of us!  Do you have an awesome salad you are willing to share? Email Erin. Send me a picture too!

Ingredients 
1 C. dry couscous
1 ½ C. veggie broth
1 Tomato - chopped
3 Scallions - diced
2 Cans garbanzo beans (rinsed)
1 red pepper - chopped/ Julienned
½ C. dried currants or raisins
¼ C. parsley - diced
½ C. pine nuts (toasted if possible)
Lemon Dressing (below)

Bring broth to Boil. Add couscous. Stir. Cover. Remove from heat. Let sit 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork. Place in a large bowl and fluff periodically as it cools to room temp. 
Combine couscous with all the other ingredients, except pine nuts. Then toss with dressing, as noted below.
 
Dressing Recipe
3/4 cups fresh lemon juice
3/4 cups olive oil
½ tsp. dried cumin
½ tsp. dried curry
2 drops hot pepper sauce
¼ tsp. garlic powder
Salt & pepper

Mix ingredients. Dress the salad with about ½ the dressing. Let absorb. Taste. Add a bit more dressing - let absorb, etc. Add pine nuts just before serving.
