Hello,
It's late November and winter holidays are fast approaching. But the fact that I'm still biking to work makes Christmas seem far off.
To start off, I'm very pleased to announce that Linda Winkler was appointed by our Board as SLA's new Vice-President of Membership and Publications effective November 14, 2016.
The process to fill the position was done according to Bylaw 13.11 in SLA's Handbook.
Linda will serve in this position on an interim basis until the Board's changeover meeting in June 2017.
She is Librarian Emeritus at the University of Regina, served six years on SLA's Board prior to the association's new governance restructuring, and received SLA's Honourary Membership in 2014.
Linda brings a wealth of library experience and association corporate memory to our Board.

Name
: Cara Bradley
Title
: Liaison Services Coordinator, University of Regina Library
Professional career and activities
: I've served in the public, special, and academic library sectors during my career. My first job after library school was as Automation Services Coordinator at Yellowhead Regional Library in Spruce Grove, Alberta. In this role, I worked to bring the region's libraries online to a shared system. It was challenging! Every library used a different system, and many of the smaller libraries were not automated at all. I still enjoy hearing about how all those little libraries and Yellowhead as a system are faring.
I then worked as a Library Intern at the University of Alberta Health Sciences Library. This was an important year for me, as I learned a lot about both health libraries and academic libraries. It was great preparation for my next role, Client Services Librarian at the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region. This was a very rewarding position, as I provide reference, instruction, collections and other services for the region's physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and others. I really felt like I was making a difference to patient care. Alas, I turned out to be a bit too much of a hypochondriac to stay in this role forever!

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets
The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
