Workshop: Building Effective Coalitions

Join us for this free in-person workshop at the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky's conference facility in Louisville, Kentucky. Helen Keller said, "Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much." Developing strong coalitions can make or break effective community work. We will draw on the wisdom in the room to deepen our understanding of effective community coalitions. Although not required, it is recommended that you bring two people from your community for maximum impact. Seating is limited. Lunch provided.

Webinar: Finding & Understanding Health Data on Kentucky's Youth

On this free one-hour webinar we will learn from experts on data concerning Kentucky's youth. Hear about the Kentucky Incentives for Prevention (KIP) Survey from REACH Evaluation's Epidemiologist, Teresa McGeeney, MS. The KIP survey is Kentucky's largest source of data related to student use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD), as well as a number of measures of mental health, suicidal behaviors, and related risk factors.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is holding their first Healthy Schools Virtual Conference where school staff from around the country will come together to learn and interact, virtually.  The virtual conference includes on-demand trainings from the Healthy Schools Program with live, virtual keynote discussion panels on award-winning strategies to get students to eat better and move more; all organized into easy to access learning tracks.

Integrating Cognitive Behavioral Skills Into Clinical Practice
November 23, 2017, Erlanger

Psychosocial risk factors, such as fear of movement and pain catastrophizing, have a negative infuence on rehabilitation outcomes and often result in higher levels of pain and disability. Changing Behavior through Physical Therapy (CBPT) and Occupational Therapy (CBOT) is a program designed to improve patient outcomes by addressing specifc psychosocial risk factors. This program has been approved for 7.5 contact hours in KY for PTs and OTs.

Free webinar on rural HIV and AIDS set for Nov. 7
November 7, 2017

The Rural Health Information Hub  and the   the Walsh Center for Rural Health Analysis , part of the research organization  Norc  at the University of Chicago , will host a free webinar, "Rural HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment," Thursday, Nov. 7.

The one-hour webinar will begin at 1 p.m. EDT, and will present a toolkit designed to help rural communities plan, implement and sustain HIV/AIDS programs. The toolkit was developed by Norc for the federal Office of Rural Health Policy . The speakers will discuss examples of successful programs and lessons learned.

This event is free of charge to all journalists.

HRSA Twitter Relay
November 13-15, 2017

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is holding its first Twitter Relay on rural health, from November 13 -15. HRSA's Twitter Relay is a series of three consecutive Twitter chats, over three days that will discuss the state of rural health in our nation today. 
 
Chats are held at 3pm EST on the following days and topics:
  1. November 13: Rural Health Workforce
  2. November 14: Social Determinants of Health in Rural Communities
  3. November 15: Behavioral Health in Rural Communities

Adult Mentor Training: Engaging Youth in Policy Advocacy

The Tobacco-Free Ambassador Partnership is holding an Adult Mentor Training to learn the best ways to recruit, empower, and engage youth in policy advocacy, with an emphasis on smoke- and tobacco-free policies. The training will be delivered by staff from Yes! Youth Empowered Solutions of North Carolina.

2nd Annual Children's Environmental Health Summit

Funding Opportunities
America Walks Community Change Micro Grant

America Walks is excited to extend another round of  community change micro grants to individuals and communities interested in improving the public sphere for walking or otherwise helping to make walking more commonplace.  
 
This program awards up to $1,500 to fund or help to catalyze smaller-scale, low-cost projects and programs that increase the prevalence of walking, expand the diversity of people and organizations working to advance walkability, and help to make walking safer, easier, and more fun for all community members.

Building Capacity for Oral Health Fluoridation Equipment in Local Communities

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is offering a funding opportunity for community water systems to replace aging water fluoridation equipment or implement new equipment for fluoridation of community water.
 
Eligible entities include: public water systems that are part of a city or county government, water systems that are part of a utility authority, other state or local government entities that may be associated with a public water system, or state or local oral health coalitions.
 
Deadline: November 30, 2017
The Department of Agriculture's Community Food Projects Competitive Grant Program

The program is designed to, among other things, meet the needs of low-income people by increasing their access to fresher, more nutritious food supplies; increase the self-reliance of communities in providing for their own food needs; promote comprehensive responses to local food, farm, and nutrition issues and create innovative marketing activities that mutually benefit agricultural producers and low-income consumers.

Rural Health Care Services Outreach Program

This community-based grant program is aimed towards promoting rural health care services by enhancing health care delivery in rural communities. Outreach projects focus on the improvement of access to services, strategies for adapting to changes in the health care environment, and overall enrichment of the respective community's health.

Generation Rx Grant Opportunities

Cardinal Health has announced three new GenerationRx requests for proposals, targeting four of the states that have been especially hard hit by the opioid epidemic. Applicants are invited to review these grant opportunities and apply for one or more to address the needs in their communities.
