Great Turnout for Bridges Out of Poverty
|
On Friday, October 20, DC MOVES sponsored the well-known workshop, Bridges Out of Poverty, at Monora Park. Over fifty people attended. They actively participated in a full day with the engaging Elaine Weir. Elaine works for Wellington Guelph Dufferin Public Health.
During the workshop, we learned about the mental models used by people living in poverty, people with middle income and people living in wealth. Elaine shared many vivid and compelling stories about her experience as a public health nurse working directly with people living in poverty. She also had stories about her personal experiences that helped us shift our perspectives about how people make decisions and behave. The workshop achieved its goals of raising awareness and developing compassion.

Winner of DBOT Association of the Year
On October 19th, 2017, the Dufferin Board of Trade celebrated the winners of the 2017 Business Excellence Awards. Business leaders from across the county gathered for the awards gala at the Mono Community Centre for an evening of celebration. A total of eight distinguished awards were presented. HatsOnDufferin received the Association of the Year Award.
The initiative is busy preparing for the big delivery to the schools. November 4th, 2017 is the deadline for hat drop-offs at all the drop-off locations around the County.

Call for Grant Review Volunteers
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada's largest granting foundations. At the heart of our work, are Ontarians volunteering their time, skills and expertise to make Ontario's communities healthier and more vibrant.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to join our Grant Review Teams across the province. This is a unique opportunity for community-minded individuals to help assess grant applications for projects in their region. We are currently seeking youth (ages 18 - 29), professionals (ages 30 - 40) and individuals that reflect the diversity of their community. Volunteers typically serve a 1 to 3 year term and volunteers typically spend on average 25 hours, 3 to 4 times a year volunteering. This does require some commitment but is a fantastic opportunity for an individual to make an impact in their community while engaging with like-minded, caring people in their region.
We are requesting your help in widening our reach by sharing and promoting the opportunity.

Free BDO Seminar - Duties and Liabilities of Directors and Officers of Charities and NFPs
On November 30, 2017, in Orangeville, BDO will be presenting a free seminar for Board members and senior managers of Not-for Profits (NFPs) and Charities. These organizations are guided by a dedicated group of volunteer directors who need to have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities in conjunction with those of management in order to achieve effective good governance.
