New FLSA Overtime Exemption Rules - On Hold
On November 22, 2016 a preliminary injunction was granted to block the December 1, 2016 effective date of new Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) white collar overtime exemption rules. As you recall, the threshold salary for the overtime exemption was increased from current law's $23,660 to $47,476. Absent further action current law applies going forward. See State of Nevada v. Mayors: Register Today For The Congress of Mayors At Oklahoma's Original Capitol on January 20, 2017
The Mayors Council of Oklahoma (MCO) and OML will host the seventh annual Congress of Mayors at the original Oklahoma Capitol, the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple in Guthrie, OK on Friday, January 20, 2017.  The goal of the Congress is to give municipal leaders a better understanding of the legislative process as well as provide them the opportunity to interact with their colleagues and lawmakers to get a realistic understanding of municipal issues such as transportation/infrastructure, public safety, municipal operations, community and economic development and municipal finance.

New Officials Institute Training; Only 2 More Chances to Attend
Throughout the year OML provides an intensive educational program specifically tailored for newly elected officials as well as experienced officials who want to keep up-to-date on municipal issues.  The New Officials Institute workshop concentrates on topics such as the Open Meeting Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Municipal Finance, Ethics and much more.  Don't let time slip away before you register.  The next workshops will be in Stillwater on February 11, 2017 and Lawton on March 23,2017. This Year's Final District Dinner Meetings Held In OKC and Tulsa
On November 29th over 30 guests attended the District Dinner Meeting (DDM) held in Oklahoma City at Cattleman's Restaurant. OML's own Missy Dean, Director of Governmental Relations and Member Services, Sue Ann Nicely, General Counsel, Nancee Morris, Communications Coordinator and Cheryl Adams, Program Manager joined the group to discuss legislative sessions, OML programs and current issues effecting Oklahoma cities and towns.   The last DDM for 2016 was held December 1st at Mamadou's in Downtown Tulsa which is owned by Glenpool's Vice Mayor Mamadou Ceesay. Over 20 guests were in attendance to hear OML's Director of Governmental Relations and Member Services, Missy Dean, discuss legislative issues coming up in 2017.  More Information
The Oklahoma Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Provides Training To Local Government Officials And Personnel
The Oklahoma Local Technical Assistance Program, LTAP, at Oklahoma State University is one of 58 LTAP Programs located throughout the United States.  The Federal Highway Administration and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation fund the Oklahoma Local Technical Assistance Program. LTAP Programs provide training and technical assistance to government entities that plan, maintain and construct transportation systems at the local level . More Information
