October in Review:
The month of October had your children learning some AWESOME stuff and experiencing some SUPER cool science experiments!
Tracy is trained in using dry ice, and she gave the kids a special presentation about this incredibly cold material on "Ic e, Ice, Baby!" day! Kids and teachers alike found this demonstration interesting and memorable!
Not to be outdone,
Maureen had children coat their hands with Crisco with a glove over it to simulate how polar bears use blubber to insulate themselves in the cold waters of the Arctic.
The weekly themes that we went over this month were "Chilly" and "Crunchy" from the qualitative side, with "Slow" and "Fast" from the quantitative side. The MAPsters learned about a variety of topics from slow animals, to the fastest speaking people on the planet. The children all got to take part in a "Crunch Off!" between snack items to decide which snack was indeed the crunchiest
! We all crunched down on foods like carrots, Cap'n Crunch, Kit-Kats, Celery, Doritos and Pretzels and decided which one we thought provided the most crunch per munch...you can find the answer to the left!

We hope that your child is telling you about the cool stuff that they do here! On the left hand side of all newsletter starting with this will be a section where you can learn some of things that we have taught your children this month! Learning is fun for everyone! We hope that you find some of the information interesting!

Second Round of Clubs

As the first round of clubs is winding down, we look forward to the second wave of clubs that your child will the option of joining!

Clubs are an option open to all students who come to MAP on the day of the club. Clubs for the next session will be introduced to the children the week of 11/6, and sign ups will be held the week of 11/13. The new clubs will begin on 11/27 after Thanksgiving Vacation.

Club offerings for this quarter are...

Monday Club: Sports Club with Joe
If you love playing sports as much as I do then Sports Club is perfect for you! We will spend our time in club exploring a variety of different sports and games. There will be flexibility on which sports we pursue. Anything from football to scarf juggling is fair game! I plan on spending more time playing sports that the kids may not be as familiar with. We will also be spending some time playing classic gym games inside as the cold weather approaches.

Tuesday Club: Animal Club with Tracy
In animal club, Mapsters will learn about a variety animals, habitats, and conservation initiatives with fun hands-on activities. We will make our own stuffed animals and beaded lizards, go on a nature scavenger hunt around the play ground, try out animal training techniques, learn what they can do to help endangered animals on a local and global scale and more! Animal club will mix fact and fun for those mapsters that just can't get enough of animals!

Wednesday Club: MAP's Got Talent with Nescarly
What is your talent? Everyone has a talent of some sort. Many times we don't portray our given talent to the world. But, I have great news. Here at MAP, your child can show off their talent. This quarter Nescarly will run a "MAP's Got Talent" club for all those who wish to join. For you who are aware there is a reality television show called "America's Got Talent". The concept is the same where talent of all kinds are shown to others. I look forward to working with your child in embracing their talent.

Thursday Club: Tactics Club with Alex:
" Every battle is won before it is fought" -Sun Tzu

Do you feel as though are always one step ahead of those around you? Do you consider yourself to be a planner, or a strategist? Do you ever pretend that you are leading armies to glory? If you answered yes to any of those questions, Tactics club may be for you!

In this club, children will learn about some of the greatest strategic minds in history such as Hannibal of Carthage, Sun Tzu, Napoleon and Patton and will be encouraged to think critically about situations. Then after learning about a certain strategy that was employed, they will be put to the test playing a game such as Risk, Battleship, Statego, Axis and Allies and other such games.

Friday Club:  Experiment Club with Maureen
Want your child to experience science in a fun way? Our MAD EXPERIMENT Club will get our MAPsters excited about science! The children will participate in hands-on science experiements and activities. We will be encouraged to analyze, predicut and problem solve while having fun!
