As 2016 comes to a close, we here at CUMAR can't help but feel blessed for another great year. From hosting and participating in industry events, to sponsoring a once-in-a-lifetime "Design and Wine" trip to Italy, below are just some of our noteworthy accomplishments from this past year.
Looking ahead to 2017, which marks CUMAR's 25th anniversary, we are excited for what lies ahead. We look forward to many more great experiences and success.
In order for us to spend as much quality time as possible with our loved ones this holiday season,
CUMAR will be closed from December 24th to January 2nd, reopening January 3rd.

FEATURED STONE OF THE MONTH:
Black Obsidian
Obsidian is a volcanic glass. Its formation is due to the sudden cooling of lava rich in silica. Usually a dull and rough black color, it transforms into a mirrored glass after polishing.
Obsidian is one of the most ancient stones in human history. Since the stone age, Obsidian has been used to produce harness-bells used for ritualistic purposes.
Each slab of the Black Obsidian has been painstakingly laid out and hand assembled by experienced craftspeople to take full advantage of the beauty of this precious stone. Suitable for indoor use, the Black Obsidian is only available in a limited quantity.

BEST OF NORTHSHORE HOME AWARDS
This past Fall CUMAR Marble and Granite was the recipient of two 2016 Best of North Shore Home awards! CUMAR won for best Flooring, along with best Stone/Tile. You can view all the BONS winners

STEPHANIE O'BRIEN PROMOTED TO
CARE & MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT MANAGER
This year, Stephanie O'Brien was promoted to Care & Maintenance Department Manager at CUMAR. Stephanie, who has been with the company for three years, previously held the position of Stone Specialist and Sales Associate.
As the Care and Maintenance Department Manager, Stephanie is overseeing all aftercare support including but not limited to, crack and/or chip repairs, stain removal, annual cleaning and seal plans.
CARLOTTA CUBI PARTICIPATED IN
DESIGN NEW ENGLAND SEMINAR
On Tuesday, June 14th Carlotta Cubi participated in a
Design New England seminar along with Steve Brand and Susan Arnold from Wolfers, Sarah Lawson from S+H Construction and moderated by Gail Ravgiala from
Design New England. The informative event took place at Wolfers Lighting in Waltham, and focused on some of the new and innovative technology and products trends in kitchens and baths, as well as the importance on the value of design and details.
CUMAR PARTICIPATES IN IFDA'S TAKE A SEAT EVENT
Cumar, in partnership with Santini Brothers Iron
Works and Over My Shoulder Foundation, participated in this year's IFDA NE Take A Seat. The chair, entitled "chain reaction" was created using salvaged iron chain that was repurposed and fused together to form the foundation of the chair. In addition to the stunning hand crafted sculptural chain, the chair also featured an engraved marble and is finished with a cheery paisley fabric that celebrates symphonic colors and whimsical patterns.
The Take A Seat Auction for Charity exhibits up-cycled and one-of-a-kind chairs from design talent around the country. Proceeds benefit the Women's Institute of Housing & Economic Development, a national award-winning affordable housing development organization.
CUMAR EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATE IN
DESIGN & WINE TRIP TO ITALY
This past spring, Dawn Carroll and Stephanie O'Brien of CUMAR participated in a once-of-a-lifetime "Design & Wine" trip to Italy! The week long trip started in beautiful Venezia, where the group toured the majestic Palazzo Rocca, the many quaint surrounding islands including Murano, home to the world renowned glass factories, and the exquisite Venissa, the only winery in Venice. From there the group headed to Verona, where they were able to explore the city and visit Antolini Luigi Italy, home of one of the most beautiful stone warehouses in the world. They were then able to take a trip up the mountains to see where stone is sourced - a working quarry.
CUMAR HOSTS NEW ENGLAND HOME
SPRING NETWORKING EVENT
On April 28th, CUMAR hosted
New England Home's Spring networking event.
The event allowed guests to 'take a trip around the world' with CUMAR as the displayed stones and food featured represented Italy, China, Brazil and India - four countries where their incredible selection of stones are sourced.
CUMAR CELEBRATES BOSTON DESIGN WEEK
This past spring, CUMAR along with Designer Bath and Salem Plumbing Supply, in partnership with ASID-New England, hosted
Perfect Pairings: Thinking Outside the Box for the Ultimate Bathroom as part of Boston Design Week.
The well attended event, which took place at the Designer Bath showroom in Beverly, featured a lively discussion on creating the perfect bathroom with panelists Carlo Baraglia, from CUMAR Marble and Granite, Mindy Sevinor from Designer Bath and Salem Plumbing Supply, and Eric Haydel, President of ASID - New England. The event also showcased "Perfect Pairings" of wine and cheese - curated by Adam Japko - CEO of Esteem Media, Inc. (New England Home Magazine) and the author of the award-winning blog WineZag.
CUMAR FEATURED IN 45TH ANNUAL JUNIOR LEAGUE SHOWHOUSE BOSTON
In May, CUMAR participated in the 45th annual Junior League Showhouse. CUMAR provided the two different stones for the kitchen, which was designed by the incredibly talented Vani Sayeed of Vani Sayeed Studios.
