A few months ago we released our first Process Design Kit (PDK) for AIM Photonics integrated silicon photonics technology and subsequently received 9 customer chip designs for our first multi-project wafer (MPW) fabrication run.

2017 is shaping up to be very exciting as we plan on 2 major full PDK releases plus the addition of both interposer and passive-only MPW fab runs for a total of 8 MPW runs in 2017.

Our vision of being able to offer high quality solutions for fully integrated electronic-photonic systems along with enabling advanced design methodologies is making significant progress.

Additional details are included below in this mailer.  We look forward to your participation in 2017

Sincerely,

Brett Attaway

Upcoming Passive, Interposer, & Full MPW
Make your reservations TODAY!
Passive PDK & MPW Run  -  Designs due Jan. 30, 2017
Reservations are due by Jan. 9, 2017 for AIM Photonics first Passive-only multi-project wafer (MPW) run based on the SUNY Poly 300mm full silicon photonics platform. DRC clean designs will be due to MOSIS on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017.

The Passive MPW offering is a subset of AIM’s full silicon photonics process technology and will allow the use of the library of passive components in the existing PDK plus the creation of your own custom passive devices.

The Passive PDK 1.0 (including Design Guide) was released for download on Dec. 21, 2016. Prior to receiving the passive PDK, design teams can get started by using the latest PDK 0.5 information and using only the passive devices and layers.  However, designs must be migrated to the Passive PDK 1.0 prior to submission.
Interposer & Full MPW Runs -  Designs due Feb. 27, 2017
The first Interposer MPW for AIM will coincide with the next Full MPW run with designs for both due on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.

Reservations are due for both of these runs by Jan. 16, 2017. The interposer Design Guide will be available for download from MOSIS on Dec. 23, 2016.
Full PDK 0.5 to 1.0 Migration
PDK 0.5e was also released on Dec. 21, 2016 and is the consolidation of the prior various 0.5d files plus an updated Design Guide and DRC deck. Full PDK 0.5e is the final 0.5 version and can be used to begin designs for the Full MPW runs.

The next Full PDK will be PDK 1.0 which will be released on Jan. 16, 2017. After it is released, designers will be required to migrate their designs to use PDK 1.0 prior to design submission to MOSIS for the Feb. 27 (Full) design submission due date.

Things to Note

12 riders are planned for the Full/Passive MPWs; each rider receives 50mm²
  • Riders will be determined by the timing of their request to AIM and will be balanced with AIM’s goals – Please submit your MPW requests as early as you can.
  • Designs must pass DRC by the due date in order to be guaranteed space on the run.
  • If you do not meet the design deadline with a DRC clean design, you will have to wait for the next run.
  • The MPW run will be cancelled with less than 6 riders.

Webinar Coming Soon!
Stay tuned for the exact date and time for an AIM Introductory PDK and MPW Webinar which is being planned for the week of Jan. 16, 2017. This webinar will be approximately 2 hours, and will review the details of what’s in the PDK as well as how to be successful in submitting designs for the MPW runs to MOSIS.
