Sock It To Em Sock Campaign 2017
Did you know that socks are the number one clothing need of the homeless, as they wear out faster than any other article of clothing, and are rarely donated? To address this issue, a campaign to raise awareness and collect socks was started in Denver in 2011 and has now spread
|
|
throughout the United States. Two years
ago, Mayors throughout the Metro Denver area were asked to sign a proclamation designating December 10, 2014 as Sock It To Em Workday, a day for residents to forego wearing their socks as a show of support for the homeless, and to recognize the great need among the homeless for warm socks.
The
Town of Superior, along with other communities, continues to strongly support this effort, and we encourage residents to participate this year to raise awareness and help by donating a new pair socks for the homeless. The Town will host a donation collection point in the lobby of Superior's Town Hall during the whole month of December.

Superior's Snow and Ice Control Plan
Winter is coming!
And with the arrival of the snow season, the
Town of Superior
is ready with a snow and ice control plan to keep streets, sidewalks, and trails open and as safe as possible. Several changes took place in 2016 for
Superior's snow and ice
|
control plan, and the Town works to maintain a high level of service in a cost-effective manner. First, a contract extension was awarded to
Superior Maintenance, ensuring another 4 years of high quality snow removal from a qualified local contractor. Second, a 4th plow was added to the fleet, allowing for more coverage on residential streets. Third, the Town is continuing its
snowplow GPS tracking program allowing staff to monitor the snowplow coverage on Town streets in real-time and track the plows' mileage and usage of de-icing materials. And finally, the Town fine-tuned its snow & ice control procedures based on factors such as accumulations of snow, weather forecasts, and time of day, which will provide residents with a more predictable level of service during and after winter storms. For more information on the Storm Categories and Street Priorities that influence the snow removal strategies, please read through the
Snow Removal and Ice Control Plan and view the
Snow Removal Map.
Homeowners are responsible for removing snow and ice from all sidewalks adjoining their property within 24 hours of the end of each snowfall. Violations of the snow removal ordinance can be reported to
Reggie Nettles, Town Code Enforcement Officer, at
303-499-3675 ext.165.

Respect Your Neighbors in Original Superior
|
|
An ongoing concern in
Original Superior is the amount of
cut-through traffic using Coal Creek Drive to access the Superior Marketplace. To help alleviate this situation, residents of Rock Creek Ranch and other parts of Town are
encouraged to use Marshall Road instead of Coal Creek Drive to access the Marketplace. New signing will be installed on McCaslin to direct traffic to use Marshall Road to access the Marketplace. In addition, the Town Board will evaluate a pilot project to restrict left-turns from 4th Avenue to Sycamore Street.
|
|
Main Street in Downtown Superior is now open! Drivers can access Main Street at the McCaslin/Main Street roundabout and use Main Street to
access the Sport Stable. Enjoy this new low-speed brick street with diagonal parking and flush concept (no curb and gutter). Construction vehicles and large trucks should use the existing construction access road north of Main Street.
|
|
McCaslin Boulevard Roundabout
|
|
The new roundabout on McCaslin Boulevard is fully open with a connection to Main Street. Please be advised of the new traffic pattern. There will continue to be periodic lane closures on McCaslin in order to complete landscape work.
Please be advised that the speed limit will remain 25 mph in this area during this construction and there will be flaggers present to coordinate temporary stops to allow for construction vehicle crossings.

Fall Back November 5th but don’t fall victim to the “beep”.
Change your smoke detector batteries when the time changes to ensure you are alerted to a fire in your home. If your detectors are 10 years old or older they need replaced. Now on the market are detectors with a 10-year battery life eliminating the need for semi annual battery changes with the clocks. To learn more visit
NFPA Smoke Alarms.
Freeze protection for plumbing doesn’t just extend to your yard sprinklers; you also need to
protect your house’s plumbing. With colder temperatures arriving you need to unscrew garden hoses from the house and blow out the sprinklers in the yard. Don’t close off interior rooms with plumbing in the walls and keep your heat a minimum of 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Have you prepared your car for winter driving? While old man winter has already visited Superior a couple of times, its time to be ready for the snow months ahead. Visit
