East Sussex
University of Sussex Propose new Life Sciences Building
The University of Sussex is seeking planning permission for a new state-of-the-art life sciences building that will create around 600 new jobs across Greater Brighton.
It is hoped the £100 million plus, state-of-the-art building could pave the way for life-changing scientific discoveries and the creation of new inventive companies.  Read more
BD Foods to Create 40 new jobs in Hastings
BD Foods, a Hastings-based food manufacturing business is expanding into purpose-built new premises and creating 40 new jobs with help from funding provided by East Sussex County Council.  Read more
Major Regeneration in Brighton
The redevelopment of Preston Barracks and the University of Brighton's Moulsecoomb campus will create over 1,000 jobs and bring over £500 million pounds into the city's economy, once completed.
The development will include over 1,300 managed student bedrooms, a 50,000 sq. ft. hub for start-up businesses and entrepreneurs and a new home for the university's Business School and new teaching and learning facilities.

Essex
Expansion at Freeport, Braintree
Big name retailers have been lined up to occupy a £13 million expansion of Freeport Braintree.
The retailers' names have not been made public but residents were told several major chains with no stores in the area were being lined up.  
The development could provide five or six huge new shops and up to 100 jobs.
It hopes planning permission will be granted early in 2017 with the upgrade opening in summer 2018.  Read more
Colchester Town Centre Overhaul
The £30 million overhaul sees plans for the former Keddie's building to be demolished to make way for an 87-bed hotel, while seven large restaurants and bars will be built.
In addition, 230 student homes are planned for the area, alongside a public boulevard which will link Queen Street to Firstsite.
It is hoped plans will be submitted by developers early next year and bosses hope the development will be completed in 2018.  Read more  
Care home plan promises 30 jobs
Weeley-based charity, the Willow Group, has applied to build a 48-unit supported living facility off 82 Jaywick Lane.
The application proposes 17 three-bed bungalows, four two-bed bungalows and a two-storey block, pavilion style, containing 48 two-bed apartments for Supported Living.
Primark set to open in Colchester in Spring
Around 150 jobs are being advertised by Primark in readiness for its opening in Colchester.
Bosses announced the shop would be moving into the former BHS store, in Culver Street East, and the new store will open in spring next year.  Read more
Colchester Northern Gateway Leisure Development
A multi-million pound leisure development due to open within two years will include state-of-the-art zip wires, climbing walls, trampolining and indoor adventure golf.
The sporting activities will form part of the 'leisure-led' development, which also includes 12 large restaurants and an 80-bed hotel.  A 12-screen IMAX and 4DX Cineworld is still under debate.  Read more
Penguin Books Distribution Centre, Frating
100 jobs are to be created in Frating in an expansion of its book distribution depot.
The hundred jobs will be created during 2017 and will be across distribution, customer services, credit services and technology. Read more

New Town to be built between Colchester and Braintree
A NEW town roughly the size of Bury St Edmunds could be built between Colchester and Braintree, as the full scale of garden settlements plans were revealed.
Work is due to start on the plans for the town, which has been dubbed West Tey, in the 2022/23 financial year and is expected to cost an astronomical £1.425billion, while creating more than 3,190 jobs. Read more  

New Lidl coming in Colchester
Lidl, which recently opened its first Colchester store, has now officially bought the old Co-op store, in Abbot's Road, Colchester.
In proposals revealed yesterday, supermarket bosses want to knock down the old Co-op store, which closed in September, and replace it with a new building.
The leaflet for the new store planned to recruit local people for the 40 new jobs.
A Lidl spokesman said the store would hopefully be open in 2018. Read more

New Town Centre in Purfleet
At its heart will be a film, television and media village. It will be the largest facility of its kind in Europe, covering 600,000 square feet, and the first purpose-built studio complex in the UK in 50 years.
Employing around 2,000 people, the studios will host some of the largest production companies in the world, alongside post-production, multimedia and video gaming firms.  Read more

Kent and Medway
London Paramount Entertainment Resort
Developers have unveiled plans to build one of the biggest theme parks of the world in Britain, with an estimated size of 872 acres - nearly twice the size of the Olympic Park, London.  The Disneyland-style theme park will cost about £2 billion and is a collaboration project by Paramount, BBC and Aardman Animations.  Attractions will include one of the largest water parks, plus theatres, rides and much more themed around movie productions in film studios.
It is estimated that the entertainment resort, which is expected to open as early as 2021, will create around 33,000 jobs (13,000, directly within the resort and 20,000 from supply chain and service requirements) as well as boost tourism for the area and the surrounding attractions on the outskirts of London, such as Knole and Hever Castles.
Pottery firm Vatre Terracotta plans expansion
Vatre Terracotta has submitted its plans to the council for the multi-million pound, new warehouse at a new site at Tutt Hill, opposite the Holiday Inn hotel on the A20 near Hothfield, Ashford, to help the business continue to grow.
If approved, the new £3.5 million warehouse will safeguard 30 jobs and will take over the six acre site currently owned by Oakover Nurseries, allowing the company to expand.
The company is part of the Apta pottery brand, and supplies products to more than 1,000 garden centres in the UK and Ireland, as well as being an exclusive supplier to the Royal Horticultural Society.  Read more
Victoria Way, Ashford - plans approved
Ashford Borough Council's planning committee voted in favour of the plans for the Victoria Way development which will see the introduction of an 18,500 sq. ft. Aldi supermarket, 200 built to rent apartments and Chapel Down's, Curious Brew Visitor Centre which will include a restaurant, bar and brewery tours.
The development is estimated to bring 160 extra jobs, plus 50 jobs in the supply chain.
It is estimated that it will provide £50 million worth of economic growth to Ashford over the next 10 years, with £3.8 million additional revenue spent by residents in the town each year.
The plans for the 120-bedroom hotel have also been approved. Read more
Eastwell Manor under new ownership by Champneys
Eastwell Manor, in Ashford, has come under new ownership and will become known as Champneys at Eastwell.  The hotel will undergo a £6-£8 million makeover over the next 18 months as well as hopes to put in additional bedrooms.
The current 140 people working currently at Eastwell Manor should increase to around 250-300.  Read more
Sheerness Steel Plant to reopen
Steel manufacturer Liberty House said the site at Sheerness in Kent would restart production of bar and rod products by mid-2017.
The company will recruit an initial workforce of 60 people, rising to 100 as market conditions allow. Read more
New McDonald's to open in Gillingham
McDonald's has revealed full plans for a new restaurant and takeaway in Gillingham.
The 4,009 sq. ft. two-storey restaurant in Courteney Road, between Tesco and Dobbie's Garden World, will create 65 jobs.
The restaurant will have a drive-through and although no opening times have been revealed, the planning application says the company's freestanding restaurants ideally operate 24 hours a day. Read more
Skills Gaps must be filled in Dover
At least 4,600 job vacancies will be created in part of Kent over the next 15 years, according to a report identifying skills shortages.
The Future Skills for Dover study identified construction, retail, logistics and life sciences as key areas where young people need to be trained to accommodate growth in the area. Read more

EON to employ 500 Smart Meter Technicians across the country in 2017

EON has announced it is to recruit and train up to 500 new smart meter technicians during 2017 and will work collaboratively with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to fill a number of these roles.

Successful candidates will start their full-time employment from January 2017 and will be provided with both on and off the job training, before commencing their role installing smart meters in homes and businesses across the country once fully qualified.

Ryanair to create 3,500 jobs in 2017

The Irish carrier, which flies from Stansted said the major recruitment drive would see it take on 2,000 new cabin crew, 1,000 pilots and 250 aircraft engineers, as it plans to add 50 new aircraft to its fleet.

The airline's initial recruitment plans come as part of a wider aim to boost its aircraft numbers from 355 to more than 500 in the next five years, which will see it hire more than 5,000 extra staff.  Read more

Google to expand London Office and create 3,000 new jobs
Speaking on his first visit to the UK as the technology giant's Chief Executive, Sundar Pichai said Google plans to build a new 10-storey, 650,000 square foot building alongside its new complex in Pancras Square.
 
It will be the first wholly owned and designed Google building outside of the US, and create up to 3,000 new jobs.

Construction is planned to start in 2018, and when complete will have more than a million square feet of space across three offices in the King's Cross campus - enough for more than 7,000 employees.  Read more
Facebook to create 500 jobs at new London HQ in 2017
Facebook plans to create an extra 500 jobs in the UK when it opens a new headquarters in London next year.
The move means the technology company will employ 1,500 people in the capital in 2017 - an increase of 50%.
The new office is currently under construction in Fitzrovia, central London.
Apple to create a London Headquarters in 2021

Technology giant Apple is to create a London headquarters in one of the city's most recognisable landmarks - Battersea Power Station.

The Grade II listed building, the four towering chimneys of which have long been a key feature of south London's skyline, will become home to some 1,400 staff.  Read more  
Heathrow Airport Expansion
East Sussex MPs, Amber Rudd and Huw Merriman, have welcomed the Government's decision to create extra airport capacity. The recommendation, that Heathrow be expanded, is expected to be worth over £61 billion to the wider economy over sixty years and will generate 77,000 jobs over the next fourteen years.
