A few years ago, my predecessor and a group of committed local Democrats founded "Blue in the Heart of Texas" (commonly known as BITHOT) right here in Dallas County so that we could share our campaign experiences, learn from each other, network, and get organized to keep moving North Texas forward.
BITHOT is a one-day conference, featuring presentations on recent elections, campaigns, outreach strategies and techniques, and other important information that helps us be successful as a Party. It's a great place to talk to fellow Democrats and to discuss what works, where we can improve, and how to get involved.
Sometimes, we feel surrounded here in Dallas County because we are the lone blue spot on an otherwise red political map. However, it's a badge of honor to be a blue county.
I'm proud to say our efforts have not gone unnoticed. Recently, the "New York Times" published an article called "The Two Americas of 2016" with a map, showing dry land where Donald Trump won, and water where he lost. On the map, our county is labeled "The Dallas Pond."
Well, we may be a pond, but we are swimming in Democrats here. As a large urban center, Dallas County provides a steady stream of Democratic votes and Democratic victories on which Texas Democrats rely to eventually take back Texas.
For these reasons, I am proud to announce that we will be continuing the tradition of holding BITHOT conferences in non-election years. Through BITHOT, we can stay organized and active and we will learn from what just happened here locally in the 2016 elections.
The 2017 BITHOT Conference will be scheduled in January or February 2017, based on the availability of an appropriate site. We will notify you soon with a date, venue and registration information, but I wanted to share this exciting news with you now.
