With Syphilis on the Rise, Providers Pinpoint Oral Symptoms

A spike in syphilis cases, linked to the opioid epidemic, means dentists and other oral healthcare providers should be ready to spot signs of the disease, which can appear in the mouth, said Assistant Professor Dr. Shruti Kashikar. RSDM Research Links Tooth Anomalies and Heredity 

When a child has a tooth anomaly, such as delayed eruption of adult teeth or other abnormalities, parents often worry that it's a sign of more serious health issues.
Assistant Professor Dr. Maxine Strickland reassures them that, most of the time, it's not. For the past few years, Strickland has worked with Rutgers students exploring how genetics and heredity are linked to tooth anomalies.  LEARN MORE


Creating Opportunity 
Program to Boost Diversity in Academic Dentistry Gets Funding

Associate Dean for Admissions Rosa Chaviano-Moran is the grant's principal investigator.
RSDM received an $85,000 grant from the ADEAGies Foundation to help underrepresented students and recent graduates become leaders in the field of academic dentistry. The program is designed to encourage underrepresented students, including LGBTQ students, to become faculty and administrators at dental schools and schools that educate dental hygienists.  LEARN MORE

Network and Learn at RSDM Series

Alums and students can mingle, learn something new and earn valuable continuing dental education (CDE) credits at a three-part series that kicks off November 8 at the Mountain Lakes Club in Mountain Lakes. The first lecture will feature Dr. John C. Minichetti, Director of The Dental Implant Learning Center at Englewood Dental in Englewood, who will speak about Esthetic Issues with Dental Implant.
