Americans with Disabilities Act
Sidewalk Facilities for Public Rights-of-Way
The Kentucky Transportation Center's Technology Transfer Program is pleased to offer the Americans with Disabilities Act: Sidewalk Facilities for Public Rights-of-Way workshop.  This one-day course will discuss sidewalk, curb ramp, and crosswalk requirements mandated under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for roadways in the public right-of-way.

This workshop will introduce participants to the design features of sidewalks, curb ramps, and crosswalks along the public right-of-way mandated under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The workshop will include discussions of the proper dimensions and slopes for pedestrian facilities, the correct placement of detectable warning surfaces, and the accessibility challenges posed by inflexible existing conditions. Attendees will leave the workshop with a better understanding of the needs of disabled individuals and learn how to design infrastructure projects that maximize accessibility for all users.

2018 Asphalt Qualification Program
The Kentucky Asphalt Qualification Program is a partnership of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Plantmix Asphalt Industry of Kentucky, and the Kentucky Transportation Center.  The purpose of the program is to develop and maintain a pool of well-trained specialists for designing and managing asphalt.

Kentucky specifications and Federal mandates require qualified technologists for all asphalt projects to assure the quality of both materials and construction.  Experience and knowledge of basic asphalt concepts and testing procedures are highly recommended prior to enrollment. The Superpave Asphalt Qualification Program offers two different qualifications: Superpave Plant Technologist (SPT), and Superpave Mix Design Technologist (SMDT).

Individuals seeking Superpave Plant Technologist (SPT) qualification must attend the entire 3.5 day SPT course and successfully pass a lab skills test and written exam.

Individuals seeking Superpave Mix Design Technologist (SMDT) qualification must already be qualified as an SPT and must successfully complete the 3.5 day course which includes a lab skills test and written exam.

Classes will begin in January 2018.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is issuing a call to action for the
first annual Traffic Incident Response Week. The 2017 goal is to increase driver
knowledge of State quick clearance laws and how to keep motorists and
responders safe on the roads.

Ideas for participating in this event include offering local traffic reporters
and other media the opportunity to ride along with local responders or
Safety Service Patrols, providing transportation management center (TMC)
tours, conducting multiple TIM training courses, or issuing public service
announcements. We encourage you to start identifying ways your agency
can participate in this important event.
