Woods Edge Park Rehabilitation
Marked with Ribbon Cutting
Montgomery Township municipal officials cut a ribbon to signify the reopening of a newly improved Woods Edge Park last Friday, October 27.

Neighborhood residents gathered on a sunny Friday morning to hear Somerset County Freeholder Mark Caliguire, Montgomery Mayor Ed Trzaska, Recreation Committee Chairman Stephen Shueh, and Recreation Director Karen Zimmerman share remarks about how this and other park facilities have been improved across town recently.

Woods Edge Park is a pocket park located on Harvard Circle within the Woods Edge neighborhood adjacent to the Yorkshire Woods development in southern Montgomery Township. Among improvements made to the park this year were the resurfacing of two tennis courts; the resurfacing of the basketball court and a pickle ball court; the installation of two new playgrounds; a new shade structure; and the refurbishment of the restrooms. A bright new wooden park sign has sprung up with the same fresh green design now placed at all Montgomery parks. J ust about to cut the ribbon on improvements to Woods Edge Park are (l to r): Open Space Coordinator Lauren Wasilauski, Parks Foreman John Snyder, resident Maddi Trzaska, Mayor Ed Trzaska, Committeeman Mark Conforti, Rec Com. Chairman Stephen Shueh, County Freeholder and former Mayor Mark Caliguire, Planning Dir. Lori Savron, Rec Director Karen Zimmerman, and Township CFO Mike Pitts.

Somerset County Freeholder and former Mayor Mark Caliguire was very impressed by the park's new look and facilities. "A great part of the reason Montgomery Township is a great place to live has been our continued investment in recreation and open space. That investment continues with the rejuvenation of Woods Edge Park," he said.

"This year we have already improved facilities at Montgomery Veterans Park, Van Horne Park, Millpond Park, Lubas Field, and now this much needed overhaul in Woods Edge. It's just beautiful and I hope our resident will enjoy it for years to come," said Mayor Ed Trzaska, who was accompanied by his 5 year old daughter, Maddi, a big fan of parks and playgrounds. "We are committed to maintaining the quality of our parks, while sticking to our core governing principle of 'do more with less'," he said.

"Recreation Chairman Stephen Shueh explained what prompted the parks
improvement initiative.
"Last year, the Recreation Committee circulated a community survey to get feedback on our parks and open spaces.  I'm excited to show everyone that we are now following up on the responses and comments we received!" he said.

Recreation Director Karen Zimmerman summed up, "I really want to thank the Township Committee for appreciating how popular our parks are with all of our residents. They have invested a lot of money into our parks, which has allowed us to make many improvements, and the residents really appreciate it."
