FIRST THING......THANK YOU!
Today's Drop-off was perfection Parents! A++!
Y'all did exactly what we asked of you, and it was so smooth!
That's how we'd like it to go every morning!

PICK UP....well....we acknowledge there were a few hiccups and things didn't go as great as we had planned, but we have ALREADY put another plan in place for tomorrow that should help alleviate some of the jam up. We know everyone will WORK TOGETHER to help make this a smooth transition in the afternoon and we APPRECIATE your cooperation!

LETTER FROM MRS. RYAN
Dear Parents,

We had a marvelous first day at our parish campus. By 8:45 AM, I had visited every classroom and found students who were settled and happily engaged in school work.  It was a clear message to us that some type of normalcy is what our children need most right now.  The teachers have all had training on the best ways to handle student trauma and stress. I am confident that they will handle the various issues that arise with great sensitivity. Kathleen Aymar, our school counselor is available for a good part of the day to help any of our children who are experiencing particular difficulties.

Since November 1 st is the Feast of All Saints and a holy day of obligation, students attended Mass in our parish church this morning with Bishop Vasa presiding. Judging from the reverence and active participation exhibited by your children they found the liturgy comforting as did the adults who attended.   know a number of the public schools provided "comfort rooms" for their students on the first days back in class. I feel so blessed that we have our faith, which we can express freely while at school, to provide the solace we need during this time.

Thank you for your patience with the drop-off and pick up process. Drop-off was smooth, but pick-up took over thirty minutes which is unacceptable.  I understand that the traffic back-up caused issues on all of the neighboring streets as well. We have a new plan in place for tomorrow.  It includes providing a longer traffic lane in the parking lot and arranging the students so that they can get to their ride more swiftly.  We are also asking parents with students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades to delay arrival on campus until 3:05 PM.  Using your name placard also helps.

We hope to have Extended Care (YMCA) and Kinder-care open by Friday and will send a text and email when we know for sure.  Having these programs open will also take some of the pressure off dismissal.

Please know that the St. Rose faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to get school opened in our new location. We have also had tremendous help from our school Advisory Council, Parent Association, parish staff, and the Diocese.  We all appreciate your encouragement and kind words. However, it is your children that keep us going.  Having them back with us has truly rebuilt our energy and renewed our hearts.

Sincerely,
Kathy Ryan
School Principal

AFTER-SCHOOL
PICK UP

NEW PICK UP PROCEDURE

MAKE SURE ALL THOSE WHO PICK UP YOUR CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THE ROUTINE
  • USE YOUR PLACARD IN YOUR WINDSHIELD PLEASE! More important than ever, using your family name placard will help US identify more quickly the car to the child. If you DON'T have one, WE NEED YOU TO MAKE YOURSELF ONE! We don't have the capability at this time to make new placards. LAST NAME - LARGE LETTERS - FRONT RIGHT WINDSHIELD.
  • STAGGERED PICK-UP SCHEDULE BEGINNING TOMORROW:
  • PICK UP 1: K - 5TH PARENTS PICK UP 2:45-3:00 PM
  • PICK UP 2: 6TH-8TH (and their siblings) PARENTS DON'T ARRIVE UNTIL 3:05PM. Those 6th-8th grade students with younger siblings, those siblings will wait with their older sibling for pick up at 3:05PM
  • Timing really is everything in this downtown location!
  • Why is there no wiggle room in the pick up time? There are OTHER parish activities, religious classes and events that come to life after 3pm, so teachers & students need to vacate as soon as possible.

REALLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Most important: Please be patient as we learn to exist on our Parish Campus.

While in this downtown urban setting, security and safety for all is our #1 priority. We have parameters and policy set in place to protect all on campus. During this transition, we ask that parents please partner with us and follow our request to limit your time on campus, limit visits to campus office unless absolutely necessary, and plan and prepare for the modifications to the school schedule. There is no wiggle room for late pick-ups after-school. All students must be picked up by 3:15PM.

COMMUNICATION with office staff, teachers or Mrs. Ryan should be done via email or phone. Please use the same school phone number to report absences or to leave messages for front office. We will check often and return calls as needed. If you are just leaving a message for your child, please don't expect us to return your call.

ABSENCES & HOMEWORK:
Same procedure as always for reporting absences. Requesting Homework packets for absent students is not an option at this time. Teachers will not prepare work to be sent home. Students will receive any make up work when they return to school. You can always check the class websites for information as well.
PARISH CAMPUS MORNING DROP OFF & AFTER-SCHOOL PICK UP
DROP OFF: NO EARLIER THAN 7:45 am
There will be 1 entrance into parking lot and 1 exit. There will only be 1 entrance into school building. Parents are asked to NOT come into the school building at morning drop off. Faculty and staff will be stationed to accept and direct students.

DROP OFF / PICK UP:
We will establish a pick up line for cars to drive up to either drop off or pick up, just like the circle at our home school!
There is absolutely NO PARKING in the first 2 rows in front of building during morning drop off or afternoon pick up.
If the drop off / pick up line gets clogged at the entrance, we ask that you please find a parking space to wait or drive around the block and come back. Clogging up the downtown streets may not be a good idea. We need everyone to be patient and do their best to make the process flow as easily, quickly and efficiently as possible.
We ask that 2nd - 8th grade parents remain in your cars and follow the drop off and pick up procedure.
Parents of younger children may if they choose, park and walk their child up to the entrance, where a staff member will escort or direct them to their teachers.

PARENTS, please understand, there is simply no space inside the parish hall for parents to walk children in at this time nor time to speak with teachers before, during or after class. This temporary space allows for teachers to set up and create their learning environments for students only. If you need to speak with a teacher, please do so through email communication.

There will be a  'front school office' set up in the foyer inside the EAST entrance,  where Ms. KC and/or Ms. Carol will be and will monitor those who enter the building, regular daily office functions, first aid station, etc. If you MUST take your child out of school for appointments, please plan ahead and notify us before coming down.

Our campus will be a very controlled environment. Only essential personnel will be allowed on campus.

We thank everyone for your patience, understanding, love and care.

Communication & School Safety

Communication with parents is important. The weekly school newsletter is a great tool for parents to stay informed. And, as you now know, we use text messaging to keep parents updated with important reminders, as well as in the event of an emergency at school.

School Safety:  The safety of everyone on our campus is paramount to us. Parent Volunteers must be compliant with Diocese requirements, and we all understand what 'stranger danger' means! Though you may feel comfortable being on campus, some of us may not know who you are. All visitors must come to the office and check in with us before coming on campus. We appreciate your cooperation.

Students are prohibited from having medication of any kind with them during the school day or from bringing into the classroom. If your child requires medication to be administered, please stop by the school office to complete the Authorization to Administer Medication Release Form.
ALL medications must be in original packaging, with prescription attached, and/or dosage instructions on the package.  We will not administer Allergy medication at school. Allergy medications should be taken at home prior to coming to school.
School Policy for Illness (from school handbook)
It's that time of year! Colds, coughs, sniffles, flu, etc.
All those little germs and bugs are busy jumping around the classrooms.
Here are a few basic guidelines for parents whose child(ren) may be coming down with a bug!

Fever
Fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Motrin before returning to school
Cough / Cold / Runny Nose
Few younger children can effectively blow their nose and wash hands afterwards. A child with thick or constant nasal discharge should remain home until clear to avoid spreading illness to others.
Vomiting/Diarrhea A child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Strep Throat
Notify office. A child is contagious until he/she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours. Child should remain home for 24 hours of treatment and until feeling better.
Lice
Notify office. Child may return to school after lice treatment
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
Notify office. Child may return to school 24 hours after treatment has begun. No discharge from the eyes.
The 24 hour test
A child should stay home for at least 24 hours if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night:
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Fever 100+
  • Itchy or reddened eyes with discharge (see Dr)
  • Unusual rash (see Dr.)
  • A poor night sleep due to illness, cough, etc.
Reminder: Children may not keep medication of any kind with them during the school day.
