Fall Concert on Tues., Nov. 7th, 6:30 p.m. at Gillioz
Join us this Tuesday, November 7th at 6:30 p.m. as we celebrate the accomplishments and talents of our Summit musicians.The Summit will hold its annual Fall Concert at the Gillioz Theatre (325 Park Central East).
The Fall Concert is under the direction of Summit Music Director Shawn Keech and includes pieces from students in beginners through the high school Summit All-Stars. This is a don't miss event! Invite your grandparents, aunts & uncles, and neighbors to this free event!
*Note: Summit students should arrive at least by 6:15 p.m. to get ready before the concert (middle school and All-Stars should arrive at least by 6:00 p.m. to tune). Please note that parking downtown can be difficult. You are encouraged to arrive early. Students will have reserved seats with their teachers, where they will need to check in prior to the concert. All students should wear a
RED Summit polo with khaki pants/skirts. Mr. Keech and classroom teachers will send more specific instructions and times to classes prior to the concert.

SAVE: Upper School Volunteer Event Sat., Nov. 4th
All Upper School students (6th-12th grades) are invited to attend the S.A.V.E. Event (Student Advocate Volunteer Event) on Saturday, November 4th from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at The Summit Prep's
NEW LOCATION, 202 E. Walnut Lawn.
Cooperating with Community Partnership of the Ozarks, The Summit is hosting our second Volunteer Fair for all middle and high school students in the Springfield and surrounding areas. At this event, students (along with parents) may learn about volunteer opportunities and/or possible internship sites from various not-for-profit agencies in the Springfield area.
The Summit's high school service learning class has been very involved in planning the fair, and we would love to see as many smiling Summit faces that day as possible.
This is a come and go event, you do not have to stay the entire time. Please help us spread the word to friends outside of The Summit and invite them

All School Picnic: This Friday During Lunch & Recess
This Friday, November 3rd is our first all school picnic of the year! Classes will head outside (weather permitting) for their regular recess and lunch times. Parents are welcome to join in the fun and bring a blanket and lunch (or you can order a sandwich too).
As always, students are welcome to bring a lunch from home (one that doesn't need to be heated, as we will all be outside). We will be having a special lunch from Jimmy Johns for our hot lunch menu option on Friday:
Ham sandwich with provolone, lettuce, tomato, & mayo and chips
- $5 for a small (4")
- $6 for a large (8")

Scholastic Book Fair: Online Ordering Available Now
The Summit's Fall Book Fair is a great opportunity to purchase new books for your child(ren) or friends while supporting The Summit Prep. All proceeds go directly to Summit classrooms. The physical book fair will be available for perusal next week, but you can go online now and order your books. There are several more options for upper elementary and middle/high school books available online. Anyone can use the link and support The Summit's Scholastic Book Fair, so share with your friends and family:

New This Year: Used Book Donations & Coin Collection
Need to make room on your shelves for new books? We will be collecting any gently used books outside of the book fair (in the lobby). These books will be donated to a local organization in the Ozarks. Also, we will be collecting spare change during the book fair. Scholastic will match all change donated and will use the money to send new books to schools affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Late Start at 9:30 am on Wednesday, November 8
Each month The Summit has a 9:30 a.m. late start Wednesday morning. During these late start mornings, Summit faculty and staff will continue to devote time to curriculum review and finalizing the self-study portion of our re-accredition process through
ISACS.
The next of these late starts will be Wednesday, November 8. Fun Zone will maintain the normal starting time of 7:30 a.m. and will be extended to 9:15 a.m., at which time students will join their teachers to begin their daily class routines. The official start time for the school day will be 9:30 a.m. You are encouraged to drop off your child(ren) between 9:15-9:30 a.m. just prior to the start of classes. However, families who need to use Fun Zone from 8:30-9:15 a.m. may do so at no cost. Questions?

3rd Grader Molly Headed Back to Steve Harvey Show, Again!
In case you haven't heard, we have a future television star in our midst! Summit third grader, Molly Leighninger, is flying back to Los Angeles to do a third taping for the Steve Harvey Show. Molly's first appearance included making her famous Molly Burger (which you can find on the menu at her parents restaurant,
Gettin' Basted, in Branson, MO). She was then surprised by none other than Rachel Ray who flew her to the big apple for the
Food Network & Cooking Channel New York City Wine & Food Festival. She returned to the Steve Harvey show for a recap of the festival. Since the ratings when Molly was on the show were off the charts, Steve Harvey has invited her back! She's taping this week and you can watch her, yet again, this upcoming Monday (November 6th) on the Steve Harvey Show. *Note the time/date may change based on what the Steve Harvey Show has going on. Be sure to check your local listings and check The Summit Prep's Facebook Page for updated info.

Summit Board Member Receives Drury Award
Judy Thompson, Summit Board Member &
Vice President for Stewardship and Principal Gifts
at Drury University, received the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Award from Drury University this month. Judy was honored at Drury's 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award ceremony. The award
honors "a Drury faculty or staff member for achievement in their professional or academic field and loyalty to the University. This award is given to a faculty and staff member who has sustained a record of accomplishment in their professional realm, their loyalty to the University and their service to the Drury community." Congratulations Judy!

Summit Family Business Directory
The Summit Parent Organization (SPO) would like to build the relationships within The Summit community by offering families with businesses the opportunity to list their business in the Summit Business Directory. This will allow us to support one another through referrals and patronage.
Participation is completely optional and free of charge. Additionally, teachers are excited at the prospect of the Business Directory to have as a reference for potential guest speakers in their classrooms &/or field trip opportunities. Don't forget to keep collecting all your box tops, labels, and Tyson product codes! We have a clear bucket on the front desk counter to collect these labels all year long. Please be sure to ask your family and friends to collect theirs as well, The Summit gets credit for every label turned in!
Fun fact: In year's past The Summit has collected over
7600 labels in a single year! 4000 box tops, just shy of 2000 Best choice labels, and 1600+ Labels for Education! Let's beat that this year!
