HELP THE HOMELESS KEEP WARM
It's time again for Operation Warm Up Box Assembly Day! Come join in the fun of preparing for such a rewarding community project. Those members who "adopted a site" will help to assemble the bin and take them from the meeting. They will drop off a bin at a near-by site (temples, agencies, etc. around town), check on it once or twice to collect items so that it is not overflowing, and then pick it up at the end.

SIGN UP TO BE A PERSONAL SHOPPER TO THE HOMELESS
This year, we have been given the opportunity to work directly with program participants of the Homeless Stand Down. We need to get an estimate as soon as possible of the number of NCJW volunteers who want to participate in order to secure our choice of volunteer opportunities. This annual event organizes tables of winter wear that is collected through Operation Warm Up. Each volunteer will be assigned to a participant to stock them with boots, winter clothing, and coats. This committee is working to develop new initiatives focusing on providing support for victims of sexual assault through local SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) programs, sex education in Ohio school districts, infant/maternal mortality, and as always, abortion rights and reproductive justice. TOGETHER, WE CAN BE HEARD
As members of Greater Cleveland Congregations (GCC), our NCJW team is ready to participate in a variety of causes:
1. The
Criminal Justice Team is concentrating on "overcharging." Some defendants are receiving unfair, harsh sentences, spending more time in jail and losing opportunities for work or counseling.
2. The
Gun Violence Team cautions all our NCJW members to avoid using the term "gun control". GCC is not interested in controlling responsible gun owners. We advocate for safe guns and realistic protections.
REDUCING GUN VIOLENCE is a more effective term.
3. The
Education Team is conducting listening sessions to understand the needs of Cleveland communities. We have been invited to attend these sessions as they are scheduled.
4. Our
NCJW/GCC Team will be planning a
Tea for Peace next month. We will invite several diverse congregations and share similarities and how we deal with discrimination in today's volatile society. Check the NCJW calendar for time and place.
JOIN WITH US TO CREATE FAIR VOTING DISTRICTS
We in Ohio are living under GERRYMANDERING: the creating of voting districts that may be so convoluted that they completely distort the will of the people. If 50% of our citizens vote for one party, yet have only 30% of the legislature representing them, something is wrong!
Thank you to our volunteers who are helping to gather signatures on petitions for a Ballot Amendment to draw FAIR DISTRICTS.

NCJW/CLEVELAND INVITES YOU TO JOIN THE LEGACY SOCIETY
NCJW/Cleveland created The Legacy Society to recognize those friends who have provided for NCJW/Cleveland in their estate plans and have notified the office of their intention. The Legacy Society expresses the organization's gratitude to those thoughtful donors who care enough about NCJW to secure the long-term financial stability of the organization in perpetuity.
All members of The Legacy Society are added to a cumulative list of members on a plaque in the NCJW office and in the Annual Report and may appear in various other publications. A member's name will appear only with his or her permission.
If you have made a provision for NCJW/Cleveland in your will or estate plan and haven't told us yet, we hope you will do so! By letting us know, you will help us plan for the future. It will also show other donors that people are investing in our future because they believe in what we do while encouraging potential donors to follow your example. Plus talking through your future gift with us will allow you to direct it to a program or service that means the most to you.

Wednesday, Nov. 15 - Confronting Life's Little Dilemmas
People don't often realize that Torah is a useful tool to help deal with life's challenges. We'll examine every day dilemmas and the choices we make about things like shopping, disclosing information, and even enjoying a scotch. We will learn how looking through Jewish lenses can help us deal and act. At the hour's end, attendees will have a familiarity with some important Jewish lessons about lying, organ donation, giving references, swimming and more.
Monday, Dec. 11 - How To Argue Jewishly
Poisonous rhetoric is spreading everywhere, even to the dinner table and that's a very Jewish subject. Our sages spent a lot of time discussing civil discourse. Yet, for each of us personally, it can be hard to be persuasive, yet civil. In this session, we'll talk about how to drive home a point without proving that the other person is wrong or making her feel stupid. We'll learn how to put into action some techniques that can make this world a better place.

Enjoy a docent-led tour of "Beyond Chicken Soup: Jews and Medicine in America" at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage then walk next door for a dose of "Jewish penicillin" with a light lunch at The Temple Tifereth Israel's Hartzmark Room.

Find out about the man referred to as the American Da Vinci because of the caliber, breadth and depth of his talents and his contributions to industrial design and the arts. Schreckengost was an American industrial designer as well as a sculptor, artist and teacher, like Leonardo.
