Utilities Board approves electric and gas rate decrease

As a non-profit, community-owned utility, we pass changes in fuel cost--up or down--directly onto our customers. At its Oct. 24 meeting, City Council voted to approve decreases  to electric (ECA) and natural gas (GCA) cost rates, as well as electric and natural gas  capacity char ges, effective today.  The net decreases to the typical monthly bills are:
  • Commercial: $48.69 (3.3 percent)
  • Industrial: $1,356.80 (3.1 percent)

Drake Power Plant update: Planning the path forward

As part of our planning efforts to decommission the Martin Drake Power Plant, we are evaluating a number of scenarios for replacement generation, including:

1. Replacement generation inside our service territory (at Drake or at Birdsall).
2. Replacement generation outside our service territory.
3. A combination of generation inside and outside our service territory.

Each scenario has a range of items being considered and comes with its advantages, such as potential site redevelopment and greater flexibility to grow with our future demands all while ensuring the reliable service expected of us.  Check out the renderings of what the future of the Drake location may look like.

In the coming months, the Utilities Board will take this information, along with customer input and research, to determine if an earlier decommissioning date for the plant is the path forward.
