Dear Friends,
This season is the time that many of us think about charitable giving. Our students certainly have. I often find my self wondering what the impact of our charity might be. I was reminded of this, last Wednesday, when our students read the Advent prayer written below to start our First Wednesday of Advent.
Lord, I sometimes find myself numb to the challenge of the world. They seem overwhelming. I ask, What can I, as one person, do to actually change anything? What does my visit to the sick or the imprisoned, or my donation to the food pantry or homeless shelter, accomplish? Lord, I pray that you keep my heart and head open to offering charity to others. Be my eyes and light the light of compassion in my soul, no matter how small my service seems to me at times. May I delight in the way you use me.
Amen.
I realize that any act of charity, no matter how big or small, benefits those in need and the sheer volume of need should not paralyze us to attempt to make a difference. Here are some of the projects currently underway at Assumption.
Winter Coat and Clothing Drive
The seventh grade is collecting gently used winter coats and clothes for the homeless served by the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. Donations can be dropped in the box in the main hall at school. Collection is ongoing until December 18.
Alex's Lemonade Stand
One Firday each month the second grade sells lemonade during lunch periods for a donation amount of your choice. This is an ongoing project that raises over $1000 each year to fight childhood cancer.
Homes of the Brave "Souper Bowl" Soup Drive
The PreK 3 class cooelcts cans of soup every Monday throughout the NFL football season. Each year the class collects over 1000 cans of soup for the homeless veterans of our area.
Giving Tree
Several classes have selected tags from the Church Giving Tree. These teachers are asking students to donate their own money to purchase clothes, jackets, or gifts for families in need. Individual teachers will be in contact about specific donations.
These are just a few examples of how we give during this Advent season. If you have suggestions of other charities to sponsor or know of families in need in our community please contact me to discuss how we can help.
Remember the season of giving is year round, not just between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Jesus asks us to be charitable as a way of life, not seasonally.

Annual Breakfast With Santa Hosted by the HSA
Reserve Your Seat Now for the Event of the Year
This cherished and favorite event of the year will be held on Saturday, December 10, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Tickets are available now. Complete the order form and reserve your spot today. Advanced tickets are $8 per person. Tickets will be available at the door for $10 on an first come first serve basis. Space is limited.
Once again, Mr. Santoli, is looking for dads to volunteer and help cook the breakfast. There will be two shifts this year, Friday 12/9 at 6:00 PM and Saturday 12/10 at 7:00 AM. If you are interested in helping either or both days please email Mr. Santoli at [email protected].

Assumption Student Christmas Concert Next Week
Our Students Light Up the Stage with the Sounds of the Season
The annual Christmas Concert will be next Thursday evening, at 6:30 PM. All students are invited and encouraged to participate and all families are invited to attend this special event.
Mrs. Yoney has prepared a beautiful mix of religious and traditional Christmas music to celebrate the season. The students have been working hard for weeks practicing and perfecting their parts.
The curtain goes up at 6:30 on Thursday, December 15. Come support the children and marvel at their talents and joy.

HSA to Host a Mom's Night Out
Monday, December 5 from 6:30 - 8:30
Get a jump on your holiday shopping and spend some quality time with friends at the HSA Mom's Night Out. Sip on wine and nibble on cheese while browsing the vendors in the Parish Hall.
Take some time to pamper yourself and possibly win mom themed raffle prizes. This is a free event to show our appreciation for all mothers in the Assumption Community.

Virtus Registration and Training
All Adult volunteers must be Virtus Trained
To register with Virtus and be eligible to volunteer, coach, or chaperone in school or at a school sponsored event you must register with Virtus, complete a training and agree to a background check.
