Thoughts From Pastor Glen
|
Confirmation Day was filled with emotion for me as I prayed over my last nine confirmands of my career. It's funny because I didn't anticipate this waterfall of feelings. Our youth, under the direction of Youth Minister Rusty Shaffer, have become a significant part of my life. Even though I haven't had a lot of hands-on time with them, they are part of the woven tapestry of Spirit of Hope. I am extremely proud of how our congregation has reached out to these young people, a community that has almost become forgotten in other churches. It is my hope that the legacy of youth ministry never fades, and that it's valued as one of the most important things we do as a church. Please keep these newly confirmed youth in your prayers as God continues to guide them in their faith walk.

Trunk or Treat Night was a huge success!
We had creative costumes, perfect weather, lots of food, bounce houses, music, games, and of course, candy.
I had the privilege of experiencing this spooky and fun event through the eyes of my three year old granddaughter, Stella, as she clung to my hand as these scary creations graciously handed out candy and gifts from their trunks.
Here is a photo of myself and Lee with our princess all dressed up in her costume for this festive event! |

I saw many new faces in the crowd, and hopefully we will be seeing them again in the coming weeks. Events like this, take a lot of work, and I want to thank
Church Council Member Amanda Klick and her many volunteers
who pulled off a memorable evening.
Here is a special message from Amanda:
The Annual Spirit of Hope Trunk or Treat 2017 was a howling success! Many, many thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who truly made the night magical. We had over 120 children who had a blast and many parents also had a great smile that night. We had amazing trunks that just lit up the night! Thank you to everyone who went all out in decorating. The kids also enjoyed a bounce house, crafts, face painting and much more. Thank you to the Mesa Fire Department, Thrivent Financial, and the Spirit of Hope Outreach committee, MOPS Group, and Youth Groups. And also a very special thank you to member Christy Tilton who kept the night bright and fun with the donation of the new parking lot lights.
It felt like
Welcome Home Day this past weekend with so many of our winter people returning to worship. I always love this time of the year as our worship space swells and lots of hugs are exchanged. It's a wonderful reminder of how blessed I am with incredible people and an even more incredible God.
All Saints' Weekend is fast approaching in a couple of days. If you have experienced the loss of a loved-one in the past 12 months and would like to publicly lift-up their memory, please contact the church office by Thursday at 10:00 a.m. to add their name to our list.
Spirit of Hope's Annual Hopes & Dreams Holiday Craft Show will be this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Over 40 vendors will fill our building selling their goods in anticipation of Christmas. This has always been a fun event, and I would highly recommend for you to stop by.
Christmas Decorators Are Wanted! If you love decorating, we have an opportunity for you. On
Saturday, November 18th at 9:00 a.m. volunteers are asked to gather at the church to set-up trees and other festive decor as we anticipate the Advent Season.
Items for a Thanksgiving meal are being gathered by our Outreach Ministry to feed the needy in a program with
House of Refuge. You will find food item tags on the tree in the Narthex. You simply need to take a tag, purchase the item and leave it under the tree (or freezer/refrigerator) depending on the item, by November 12th.
Bishop Lowell Almen will be meeting with our lay leaders this week in finding an Interim Pastor (a temporary Pastor until a new Pastor is called). He has told our leaders that typically congregations moving through times of transition see a 10-20% decrease in worship attendance, which also produces lower financial offerings.
I, along with our Stewardship Ministry Team will attempt to address this issue during November. We will be asking everyone in our worship community to
give generously in order to sustain our present staff, and to move with financial strength in the calling of a new Pastor.
Please keep this issue in your prayers as God guides Spirit of Hope through this new adventure.
Peace & Love,
Pastor Glen

This coming weekend - November 4th-5th, during our 5:00 p.m, 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services, we will be celebrating All Saints' Day. This is an occasion to honor and remember those who have died since All Saints' Day 2016. While the names are read, family members may come up and light a candle to honor their loved ones. We would be pleased if you or someone in your family is able to be present. |

We received this very thoughtful thank you note from the City Of Mesa Police Department, thanking member Donna Blad and our amazing congregation here at Spirit of Hope for the wonderful Shoebox Ministry Program that Donna orchestrated this summer/fall.
We wanted to share their thanks and appreciation with all of you.
Job Well Done, Donna!
