This Sunday at Christ Church
Faith & Practice

This Sunday, Nov. 5, Brings us a
Special Guest with a Special Story
Christopher's two sons, Nick and Martin, have a good friend named Elliot Varney. They  grew up together.  Elliot is a second year medical student at University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.  A few years ago, Elliot was driving home, sober and without texting, when he hit and killed a Jackson City policeman who had wandered too far onto the highway while stopping another motorist. Elliot's experience of resilience, vulnerability, mercy, and faith has changed the way he is looking at the rest of his life. He will share that story with us this Sunday at 10:45AM in the church.
We will have Church School classes as usual this Sunday.
This is Cornerstone Sunday
THE FUTURE WE SHAPE
We appreciate (and rely) on your generous support of the mission of Christ Church.  Please return your pledge card by bringing it to worship on Sunday when all will be invited to walk forward as part of the offertory procession, and we'll place our pledge cards in a central basket. Or, click here to submit your pledge online. (Online pledgers can participate in the Cornerstone Sunday procession too! Keep an eye out for "I pledge online" cards, available in church on Sunday) Thank you.
All Saints Evensong & Parish Dinner
Sun. Nov. 5 - 5:30PM
Please join us at 5:30PM on All Saints Sunday, November 5 for Evensong featuring our Youth and Adult Choirs. Music for this lovely, peaceful service will include choral anthems by Barnard, Brewer, and Gramann and organ music by Honegger and Telemann. During the service, we will pray aloud for departed friends and loved ones whose names you have submitted to us.

After Evensong, all are invited to participate in a delicious, festive parish dinner in the McClain Room. We'd love to have you with us!

Our next date for donating to the New Trier Food Pantry is Sun., Nov. 5 when we will be collecting: diapers, personal hygiene products, and cleaning products. Please remember to add an extra item or two to your shopping cart this week and bring the items to church. If you forget your items, we'll have extras you can purchase in the Prevost Cloister after each service. Questions? Please see Nancy Challenger, Sarah Generes or Debbie Ross.
Book Group
We have selected our next book: The Rebirthing of God: Christianity's Struggle for New Beginnings, by respected spiritual leader, peacemaker and scholar John Philip Newell. Please join us-or re-join us-- for this exciting read! Book Group meets every Monday morning 11:00-12:00 in the McClain Room. We typically read one chapter per week. Feed My Starving Children
Turn Hunger into Hope with
Your Own Two Hands
Saturday, December 9, from 9AM to 11AM, Christ Church will travel to Libertyville, Illinois to help Feed My Starving Children. We have decided to carpool instead of spending the money on tour buses.  We will gather in the parking lot of Christ Church behind the 470 Maple Street address at 7:45AM. We will leave promptly at 8AM.  We will return at noon. We committed to bring 80 people.

Sign Up Today! Email Phil at pkrone@productivestrategies.com

More importantly for us, they accept volunteers as young as 5 when accompanied by an adult.  This means that for families with small children, this can be an event that everyone can participate in together.
A Just Harvest
Christ Church serves twice a month at A Just Harvest, a community kitchen, in Rogers Park, serving dinner 365 days a year to anyone in need. This is a great family opportunity to "reach out". We need cooks (done in your home), servers (age 12+), and people to provide milk, fruit, and salad each time we are "on deck." To learn more go to: http://www.christchurchwinnetka.org/a-just-harvest .
