Every year I feel like the days fly by faster and faster… and this year is no different. It’s hard to believe that we are about to enter into the holiday season, the days are getting colder and shorter, and we start to look back over the year with our minds and hearts to explore all that happened. Of course this month brings the gift of gratitude and an amazingly deep appreciation for all of our gifts. For me, you all are on my gratitude list for sure!
Through all my years of helping people on their health and wellness journeys, I have seen so many different ways that this time of the year is viewed and all people do. Some begin to focus on changing their eating, some pick up their physical exercise classes and private sessions, some begin yoga or Pilates, and many contemplate the new year and consider resolutions, goals, or intentions for the beginning of the next year. I get asked all the time what I think is most important and here are some of my responses:
- The balance of caring for our health is 80% diet and 20% physical activity
- To keep a healthy back and to stay safe in all physical activity, incorporating Pilates is the best recommendation I can make for this
- To maintain peace and calm, a very consistent yoga practice is very, very helpful
- Make sleeping well a top priority
- We are at least 90% water…drink it up!
- Eat more plants…especially green ones.
- Never, ever skip breakfast. Make it mostly a healthy, lean protein.
- Consider good probiotics and digestive enzymes for a healthy gut. The gut is EVERYTHING!
These are good, general tips that truly can help anyone. But, there’s one more: Meditation. Everyone can meditate! All too often I hear people say, “I just cannot meditate.” Actually everyone can mediate. What’s misunderstood usually is that sitting still, not moving, and emptying the mind is not meditation. ;-) There are so many ways to meditate and this exploration though my life has now lead me to partake in an amazing 2-year certification program on just mediation. I have been teaching mediation for years… and now I am exploring it in such great detail.
Join me for either of my 2 classes specific to sound/vibration therapy, mediation, and pranayama on Monday and Wednesday evenings, set up a private sessions with me, or come to my YEP Group sessions that are specific to meditation to get more experience and details. 20 minutes of meditation is equal to the healing and restoration of a whole night’s sleep! Allowing time for our brain to be in the alpha or theta brain wave states is so powerful and restorative. The calm and peace it brings is amazing. Meditation can be done anywhere and in so many ways. It is on the top of my list for anyone to take on as an intention for the new year.
I wish you all an amazing month of giving thanks
for all this life has to offer. I am so grateful for all of you in my life. It’s an honor to share this exact time and space on this journey with you all.
Namaste,
Diana Spiess
