Diabetes In Cats On The Rise: What You Should Know
We are seeing more and more cats developing diabetes, which is the inability to produce enough insulin to balance blood sugar, or glucose. Two indisputable facts about this disease is:
1) It’s largely preventable and unnecessary
2) It’s a real challenge to treat for some owners
Fortunately, diabetes is also one of those diseases that benefits from early detection. Here are some of the reasons to test your cat early and often for diabetes:
DIABETIC REMISSION
One of the most interesting aspects of feline diabetes is its potential reversibility or remission, especially when diagnosed early. I’ve seen a large number of kitties gradually taken off insulin when treatment was started early.
Research has shown up to 60% of cats will have diabetic remission within the first few months of treatment, reports Dr. Alice Huang of Purdue University. Good blood sugar regulation with exact insulin treatment, changes in diet and weight loss are instrumental for reversing diabetes in many of our feline friends!
Observation is most important for early detection of any problems.
Use a damp cloth to clean the discharge and crustiness from the eyes. Trim any hair that may get in your pet's eyes and irritate the pupil. Your pet may need to see our groomer to safely cut hair in this area.

Why Trimming Your Dog's Nails Is Important
Regularly trimming your dog's nails may seem like a real inconvenience, but it's actually important to their overall health. Nails that are too long can chip and break, creating a painful condition that may need a veterinarian's attention. It can also affect their standing and walking, making it awkward and causing pain (not too mention scratching your floors).
In extreme cases, nails left too long can curl back and embed in the paws of your dogs feet. Regular nail trimming helps your dog adjust to the cutting sessions, making it easy for you and the groomer.
For more information on trimming your dog's nails visit
www.pethealthnetwork.com If you're not comfortable clipping your dog's nails, then make sure you schedule a regular grooming with us. We'll provide a safe, professional trimming and check their nails and coat to make sure they look their best.
