We are saddened by the tragic loss of Bill Bradbury--our Tamarancho camp ranger and our friend. He passed away doing something he loved for a camp and program he loved. His loss leaves us all with a hole in our hearts as we grieve alongside his wife and two children.

 

Since many of our Marin Council families have asked how they can help Bill's family, we have created a Bill Bradbury Family Fund at the Marin Council, through which we can accept donations that will directly benefit his family.

Following the tragic accident on Iron Springs Road last week, media reports erroneously reported that there was a road collapse. We felt it important to correct that statement with our Scouting families and let you know that Iron Springs Road is completely passable in terms of access to Tamarancho. In fact, it is important to note that due the dedication of Camp Ranger Bill Bradbury, Iron Springs Road is perhaps in the best shape it has been in years. The gravel work and scraping we have been conducting during the last months have resulted in a very smooth fire road.

Regardless, Iron Springs Road, like many roads throughout Marin, is a narrow road, and all drivers should exercise caution when traveling to or from camp. We remind all Iron Spring Road users to always watch their speed on the road and not to exceed 10 mph; yield to cars that are traveling uphill; and when encountering oncoming traffic on Iron Springs Road, pull as closely to the uphill side of the road as opposed to downhill shoulder.

Our 2017 annual Friends of Scouting giving campaign is well on its way, but participation is down in a year when camp repairs have been numerous, event attendance and equipment use has been high (yeah), and membership and recruiting has been great. None of your yearly dues are diverted to support council programs, increased participation and camp use, or maintenance and repairs of our camps. That's what the Friends of Scouting campaign is for.

Each Scout's experience in the Marin Council program is supplemented by about $250 per year. Not every family is able to give that amount, and some are able to give more. The goal is for everyone to give what they can.

The Marin Council has an immediate opening for a part-time position assisting our accounting and general office functions. This position is a twenty-hour-a-week position and will include coding invoices, maintaining spreadsheets, coordinating with accounting service firm, and other general clerical functions. Accounting background is not required, but ideal candidate would have a strong attention to detail, proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, and be able to work independently.
