Project Highlight

Townsend Winona Road - Coconino County

Townsend Winona Road in Coconino County connects communities east of Flagstaff to US 89, I-40, and Tribal Lands via Leupp Road. Woodson's team designed the pavement rehabilitation to extend the pavement service life of a four-mile stretch of this roadway. Our design services included widening, bus pullouts, guardrails and drainage improvements. Our survey department also performed a topographic survey and ROW services. A key factor in this CMAR project was working with both the Forest Service to meet environmental requirements and the contractor to eliminate utilities conflicts, saving time and money.

The project was funded through Coconino County's Proposition 403 - Road Maintenance Sales Tax. The Townsend Winona Pavement Project was just one of many projects funded through this effort.

New Staff Join Woodson


Tim Gill

We are pleased to welcome two new additions to Woodson. In October, we hired Tim Gill as Office Manager. Tim succeeds Donnie Jones who retired and has been helping Tim learn our accounting system. Tim grew up in Flagstaff and graduated from NAU with a degree in Accounting. He has a strong background in accounting and business management, as well as personal and small business tax preparation.


	Brian Mansker

Brian Mansker joined the Woodson family when he married Mark Woodson's daughter Kathy in 2012. In addition to being Mark's son-in-law he is also the new Survey Crew Technician.

Project Highlight

Transcon Lane South - City of Winslow

Woodson completed the Transcon Lane South Project this summer for the City of Winslow. Our design was for reconstructing and widening the three lane roadway to a five lane PCCP roadway. Due to the heavy truck traffic at this exit off of I-40, the concrete needed to be 11-thick. We provided the scoping, environmental process and design for this ADOT-administered project.

Woodson Finishes Term as ASCE National President

Mark Woodson has completed his term as the 2016 National President of the American Society of Civil Engineers and will continue in the upcoming year of 2017 as Past-President. With a lighter travel schedule he is looking forward to continuing his involvement at the local and state level, as well as continuing his commitment to preparing the next generation of engineering students for the work force. He recently was a guest lecturer at Northern Arizona University's engineering program speaking about public policy and how it affects engineers ( pictured below ).

News Briefs

New Payson Office

Woodson's Senior Technician, Grant Evans, and his family recently relocated to the Town of Star Valley and is staffing our new Payson office . A new project in Payson will keep him busy.

Grant is working on site redevelopment alternatives for Gila County's Payson Courthouse Complex. With this new location we can more efficiently serve the Rim Country and White Mountains areas, as well as the east valley of the Phoenix metro area.

AFMA Conference

Jeff Swan and Sirisha Kalluri presented with Bill Bess at AFMA's Fall Conference in Wickenburg. The two projects presented were both in Navajo County where Bill is Assistant Public Works Director.

The first talk was "Porter Creek Culvert In-Situ Rehabilitation" in which Bill provided the background of the four damaged and deteriorated 96-inch CMPs and the need to rehabilitate them in-situ. Sirisha discussed the development of an evaluation matrix of the ten rehabilitation alternatives. The method selected involves a reinforced shotcrete applied to the interior surface. The project is expected to go to bid in the spring.

Jeff and Bill presented the Public Outreach Process that was initiated due to changes to the FEMA flood hazard maps impacting residents of the City of Winslow and Navajo County. The Little Colorado River Levee, east of the City of Winslow, was de-accredited and resulted in approximately 3,000 properties that were rated in Special Flood Hazard Area Zone A.

NAIPTA Bus Stop Mobility Improvements

We recently redesigned 42 bus stops for the Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority to improve ADA accessibility. The stop pictured is on US 180 in front of the Museum of Northern Arizona.
