SUPPORTING A NETWORK OF PROGRAMS

Our Fund Distribution Volunteers recently completed hours of work reviewing grants and visiting community organizations to select the recipients for 2017-2018 grants. United Way's rigorous vetting process ensures that donated dollars are spent efficiently where needed the most to impact our goals in Education, Income and Health.

T his year over 35 amazing programs will receive funding, resulting in 100,000+ individuals right here in Whatcom County that will be directly touched by contributions to United Way. Kids who will be better prepared for school, at-risk teens who will graduate, families that will have a roof overhead and food on the table, and individuals living healthy lives free from violence and abuse. Our community thrives, thanks to support of United Way!

42% ARE STRUGGLING YOU CAN HELP!

The working poor (or ALICE, Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed) make up 22% of Whatcom County another 16% are below the poverty line. This means that 38% of our community does not earn enough to reach a basic survival budget to pay the average costs of housing, childcare/early learning, food, and healthcare.

That's why United Way supports all of these, not just one! We partner with programs and projects that provide:

  • Childcare/early Learning
  • After school programs
  • Job skills/prep
  • Safe/stable housing
  • Access to food
  • Mental health and recovery support

Big challenges aren't solved one non-profit at a time. Your gift to United Way of Whatcom County changes lives through a network of programs dedicated to lift up ALICE and strengthen our entire community.
