WMS Cane Way Recognition
Educating for Tomorrow
The future is looking bright for this group of WMS students!  On Friday, October 27, 2017 the Middle School held a surprise award ceremony, complete with parents, to recognize WMS students who exemplified The Cane Way!

Each of the students were nominated by a WMS staff member and had no idea about the ceremony until they were called to the Auditeria. We were able to recognize this exemplary group of students in front of their parents and highlight their extraordinary daily contributions to the Middle School - The Cane Way!

The Cane Way is about more than grades, it's about how students interact with their peers and teachers, their positive attitude, kindness, compassion, work ethic, willingness to help others, desire for learning, and the ability to meet challenges head on.

We hope you'll take a few minutes and read what the WMS staff members had to say about each student recognized. With students like these, the future looks bright indeed.

WHS Presents:
Peter and the Starcatcher

Fall isn't complete without a fantastic WHS Theatre production!  This Fall the production will be Peter and the Starcatcher.
Synopsis:
Peter and the Starcatcher provides a humorous and fantastical backstory for the beloved character of Peter Pan and his arch-nemesis Captain Hook. In this wickedly imaginative play, we meet a poor orphaned child on the high seas simply called Boy because, in the absence of a mother and a father, he was never given a name. His sad and lonely world is turned upside down when he meets Molly. The daughter of famous Starcatcher Lord Astor, our heroine is on a mission to save the world and protect a treasure trunk filled with magical star stuff from getting into the hands of evil and greedy pirate Black Stache. As they travel aboard the Neverland ship headed for a faraway land, Molly and Boy learn about love, friendship and forge an unbreakable bond.

Show dates:

Bedtime Stories Live

What happens when a high school principal and an elementary principal get together? They share and steal ideas from one another! Recently, Mrs. Walker, the new principal at the high school, shared an idea with Mrs. Long, the Denver Place principal. If you follow the Denver Place Facebook page, you've already seen this idea in action as they go live each Monday at 7pm for an evening bedtime story.

As a teacher and then Principal, Mrs. Long (Denver Place Principal) knows firsthand that reading to children increases their vocabulary, helps them learn to recognize sounds and letters, improves literacy, and more. Reading to children ages 0-3yrs old can make a difference in their readiness for kindergarten and increase their chances of becoming a strong reader and a successful student.

Each week Denver Place has a guest reader and a new book. One week their guest reader was WCS Superintendent, Mrs. McCarty-Stewart. As a special treat that night her husband, a High School Spanish Teacher, also read the book in Spanish. It's always enjoyable and educational. So gather the kids and take some time to hear a great story on Monday nights at 7pm on the Denver Elementary Facebook page @denverelementary. You can also view prior readings in their Facebook video library.
