The English Dictionary defines the word as, "the activity or time of gathering a crop, or a crop that is gathered."  In my imagination, camp is like fertile ground ready to be sowed - a place where adults and children, together, plant metaphoric seeds in the hearts and souls of all involved in the camp experience.   

At BDC, we have a dual mission of growing campers and staff. We work hard to instill  rich values in our children and in our young adults - values such as: Sharing kindness and empathy; Creating an appetite and eagerness to learn and challenge ones self; Honing the skill of sometimes putting the needs of the group ahead of your own; Cultivating gratitude and practicing mindfulness; Learning to ask for help or guidance from others; And of course, embracing Courage, Hope, Good Spirit & Peace - yet the list goes on and on! The seeds of these great values are planted at camp "in-season" and the HARVEST is gathered in the "off-season" all winter long.  

 

While the days continue to grow shorter, I hope that you are HARVESTING all that was planted in you or your child this summer. If you haven't visited camp in a while, come back next season.
