Closing the Skills Gap in Arizona

Construction companies, utility providers, and trade unions joined forces to repair the skills gap in Southern Arizona during the fourth annual Southern Arizona Construction and Career Days event held at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds on October 25 and 26. The event provided more than 1,500 high school students an opportunity to see the wide variety of skilled-trade jobs waiting for them, and time to meet with more than 200 prospective employers.

Legendary Teacher Day
Honoring Those Who Make a Difference

Former Flowing Wells Superintendent Dr. Nic Clement not only remembers the teachers who made a profound difference in his life, after many years he still makes it a point to thank them.

As the holder of the Ernest McFarland Citizen's Chair in Education at Northern Arizona University, Dr. Clement now makes it his life's work to advocate for education and honor legendary teachers throughout Arizona.

He recently honored two Pima JTED teachers who were selected by their students as Legendary Teachers: Allison Embacher, Culinary Arts teacher at Flowing Wells High School, and Billie Moon, Fire Service instructor at Pima JTED's Central Campus.

Tucson!

For the second year in a row, the Rotary Club of Tucson named Pima JTED as a beneficiary of their annual Tucson Classics Car Show held at the Gregory School in mid-October.

Approximately 120 of our students and a dozen staff members volunteered alongside Rotarians at the show, helping post cars on display, direct traffic in the parking lots, and assist visitors. Our EMT Instructor Michelle Watson and her students provided first aid.

Last year, the Rotary Club of Tucson donated $40,000 from the proceeds of the 2016 car show to the JTED Fund. Monies raised help students who demonstrate a financial need pay for equipment and uniforms which are required to participate in their JTED program. It also helps students who need assistance pay for their industry certifications and state licenses so they may work in their chosen field.
