NY Council for the Humanities has been busy updating their brand, look, and name. Now in their 40th year, they will be known simply as
Humanities New York.
In 2016
Schenectady County Historical Society and the
Albany Institute of History and Art both received
Action Grants for projects they're currently working on.

CDLC would like to extend a big thank you to all of our members who we had the fortune to interact with this year.
Whether you took time out of your schedules to provide us with input for our
Annual Survey, joined us at our
Annual Meeting, joined us as we visited legislators at the Capitol during
Library Advocacy Day, served on a
Committee, participated in a
Workshop, or just sent us an email (the list is endless!), we appreciate your support and hope we have the opportunity to do even more in the next year!

The Medical Information Services Program can help CDLC member libraries defer their health and medical information costs by providing them with funds for medical and health related
Interlibrary Loans.
If your library provides your patrons with medical/health ILLs that you have to pay for, you might be eligible to receive program funding to help offset that cost through MISP.

Regional Collections...Local Connections
Recently, CDLC's courier services helped facilitate the delivery of a donation of about 275 historic children's books.
Schenectady County Public Library had removed the books from circulation and wanted to find a permanent home for the books. The perfect place for them turned out to be the
Miriam Snow Mathes Historical Children's Literature Collection located at the
University at Albany's M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives.

Changes in the CDLC Board of Trustees
CDLC welcomes some new faces to our board.
Rebecca Mugridge, Dean and Director of Libraries at the
University at Albany joins the board and fills the seat left vacant by
Louise Macuirles, of
GE Research Libraries who served on our board for the past 8 years.
We also say goodbye and thank you to
Michael Aikey, former director at the
New York State Military Museum, who served CDLC as Board President and treasurer for a number of years.
Lastly, CDLC has a new
Executive Board as an outcome of this year's Trustee Elections:
Susan Iwanowicz, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, President;
Elissa Kane, Kane and Lekakis, Vice President;
Tim Burke, Upper Hudson Library System, Treasurer;

New York Heritage Collection Highlight: "
Schenectady, NY Street Scenes"

Schenectady County Historical Society has published a new collection which includes photographs of businesses, churches and industries along the city's downtown streets, the bulk of which are around State Street, Schenectady's "main" street.
Additionally, they show the industrial development of the city, the historic Stockade neighborhood, the development of Erie Boulevard after the Erie Canal was filled in, and the city's expansion eastward.
New York Heritage Digital Collections is a research portal for students, educators, historians, genealogists, and everyone else interested the people, places and institutions of historical New York State. The site provides immediate, free access to digital collections that reflect New York State's long history. This service is available through CDLC for our member institutions.

Hard Work Pays Off
It's always nice to receive recognition for the things that just come naturally. Donna Winkelman, a medical librarian at Glens Falls Hospital, recently got a taste of what that was like when she became the recipient of a CARES-Excellence badge.
"Donna went above and beyond the call of duty in her literature search for me! She is very knowledgeable, tenacious and diligent in her assistance. She utilizes outside resources to obtain requested articles. If Donna cannot find it, it doesn't exist! Donna is a HUGE asset to the organization and we are lucky to have her. Donna, thanks for your hard work. It is much appreciated."

Donna also received acknowledgment for her part in helping physician, S. Jorgensen research a chapter for
Braddom's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Albany Institute Wins Award
 Did you know that perforated toilet paper was invented in Albany and the patent was awarded in 1871? It's true, and you can read more about it by visiting the Albany Institute of History & Art's The Capital Region in 50 Objects.
This exhibit received the 2016 Award for Excellence from the
Greater Hudson Heritage Network in recognition of the development of a
Teacher Resource packet in which each lesson plan is based on an object displayed in the museum exhibition.

NYLA Council Election Results
The New York Library Association announced results of their 2016 Council Election in July with heavy representation from the Capital Region.
- Tim Burke, Executive Director, Upper Hudson Library System, will serve as President-Elect from Nov. 2016 - Nov. 2017 and then as NYLA President from Nov. 2017 - Nov. 2018

Jennifer Ferriss,
Assistant Director and Community Liaison, Southern Adirondack Library System, will serve as ALA Chapter counselor from 2016-2019
- Jill Leinung, School Librarian, affiliated with the East Greenbush Central Schools, will serve as the School Councilor at Large from 2016-2019.

Conservation Preservation Discretionary Online Grant
The New York State Program for the Conservation and Preservation of Library Research Materials provides $500,000 each year for preserving materials in the collections of libraries, archives, historical societies and similar agencies. The grant awards for 2017-2018 will be limited to a minimum of $1,500 and a maximum of $40,000.

Documentary Heritage Program Grant
The Documentary Heritage Program (DHP) is a statewide program established by
law
to provide financial support and guidance to not-for-profit organizations that hold, collect, and make available New York's historical records. Funding is available to support projects that relate to groups and topics traditionally underrepresented in New York's historical record.
The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) 2016-17 appropriation for DHP includes $92,000 for DHP Grants in the areas of Documentation and Arrangement & Description.
