Honoring Our Veterans

Nearly 7,000 veterans call Thousand Oaks home. We are grateful to the men and women of the armed forces here and across the country for their past and continued service. Veterans Day is observed this year on Friday, November 10, 2017. A number of local businesses will also honor veterans with free meals and special offers on and around Veterans Day. Resurfacing & Restriping Update

Beginning in April 2018, The City's Preserving Your Streets project will begin its resurfacing work and potential restriping of certain streets to improve safety. Residents are invited to a community meeting on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Lang Ranch Elementary School to learn about specific restriping and lane configuration proposals on Aveneda de Los Arboles between Erbes Rd. and Westlake Blvd. Visit the Preserving Your Streets web page for more information.

Momix Comes to Kavli Theatre

Momix will bring their unique performance style to the Kavli Theatre on November 17, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. with a performance of the acclaimed Opus Cactus. This story takes a dynamic journey into the hidden landscape of the American desert. MOMIX is a company of dancer-illusionists who manipulate their bodies and props in unique and beautiful ways. Appropriate for the whole family, they use uses props, light, shadow, projections, music and costumes to enchant audiences around the world. Tickets are available at Civicartsplaza.com.
Ed Lawrence Exhibit Preserves History

From November 6 through November 9, 2017, the Thousand Oaks Community Art Gallery will display the work of iconic photographer Ed Lawrence. Long known as the informal chronicler of the Conejo Valley, past and present, Lawrence's photographs capture the transformation of Thousand Oaks over the past 60 years and beyond. The Gallery is located at 2331 Borchard Road, Suite A and is open from 11 a.m. to 5 pm.
Park Pays Tribute to Local Leader
 
The City of Thousand Oaks, the Conejo Recreation and Park District and the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation have dedicated Wildflower Playfield in honor of former Mayor Frances K. Prince and her husband, Harvey Prince. In 1976, Frances was the first woman elected to City Council, and she later became the first chairperson of COSCA. She and Harvey were instrumental in securing the land for Wildflower, and were pioneering advocates for open space, the arts and libraries. California Lutheran University's (CLU) Lecture Series kicks off November 1, 2017, with Michaela Crawford, PhD, presenting The End of Civilizations at 7:00 p.m. in the Thousand Oaks Library Community Room.

Award Recognizes Excellence in Arts
Last month marked the return of the Cultural Affairs Committee's Excellence in Arts Awards and Celebration. Congratulations to the winners: Michael Pearce, Tish Greenwood, Edward Francis, Young Artists Ensemble and the All District Music Festival. Learn about this annual event.

Sapwi Trails Site of COSCA's 40th
The community came together last month to build trails in the new Sapwi Trails Park and celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA). Watch the TOTV video or read about Sapwi Trails Park's innovative partnerships.
