National Merit Semi-Finalists

Congratulations to our National Merit Semifinalists - Sachit Agrawal, Austin Nash, Brandon Nash, Angelina Norris, Sue Yeon Park, and Roger Zhang! This prestigious honor is awarded to about 16,000 juniors out of 1.6 million juniors in the country, honoring the top 1% of the nation's scholastic champions to encourage the pursuit of academic excellence.  The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state's percentage of the national total of graduating seniors -- California has one of the highest qualifying requirements in the country.  About 90% of the Semifinalists will continue on to be National Merit Finalists who will have a chance to win scholarships up to full-ride scholarships at some institutions. Congratulations to these seniors for this outstanding recognition!

VEX Robotics Competition

Two VEX Robotics teams represented PVHS and PVIT at the Clash of the Canyons Tournament in Calabases last weekend. These two new teams made up of a total of 9 freshman and two 8th graders had a great showing for their first tournament, especially considering that half of the team members had never built a robot before. With the help of student mentor Steven Davis, the teams were able to design, model, build, and test their robots, spending over 15 hours a week starting in the summer. At one point, the Seaking teams were competing against their middle school friends who now attend Peninsula High School, and then found themselves competing Seaking-Team A  vs. Seaking-Team P!  PV won that match! Our next tournament is in three weeks to give the team a chance to redesign, rebuild, and test before hitting the arena again. If you would like to see a tournament, PVIT will be hosting a tournament at PVHS on December 2nd. Come out to see what these amazing robots can do!

They also bring their school spirit to lunchtime rallie s and school activities. Their smiles bring us great joy. These ladies demonstrate positive leadership and represent themselves as wonderful role models to the Sea King community.

WASC Update
The Mock WASC visit on Wednesday, October 18 was a great success.  We had District Administrators, Principals, and an AP and teacher from Peninsula High School. They met with our Focus groups, visited classrooms, and pulled faculty and staff aside to have one-on-one conversations. We were provided great feedback to be very well prepared for the WASC visit in March.

We still are in need of parent volunteers to participate. If you would like to participate on the WASC team, please contact  Danny Barbara.
