My Pride Got in the Way

My Pride Almost Ruined My Business and Sponsorships

When I first became an entrepreneur, I was young and rebellious. My pride got in the way. I wanted to make it on my own and I thought this meant not having to ask people for help.

My First Two Businesses Failed

After these failed businesses, I started my sponsorship consulting and seminar company. I put my pride aside and asked everyone for help. I found out that successful entrepreneurs make it on the strength of their teams, mentors, coaches and their willingness to be teachable.

When I Wanted to Get Sponsors, I Asked People Who had Been Successful with Sponsors and I Hired Professionals

An expert team created my sponsor proposal and my first sponsors were Wal Mart, IBM and Bank of America. I've been asking for help ever since and I never looked back.

I just got back from Dynamic Speaker Training in Las Vegas where we learned to give up our pride in order to take risks and become better speakers. My Fast Track Sponsor client, Barbara Engle, was also there and we loved being silly and outrageous.

Here's How to Get Your Ask in Gear.

  1. Hire coaches, consultants and mentors. Studies show that these people elevate and turbo-charge your goals. They are definitely worth the investment.
  2. Create an advisory board or mastermind group. Recruit people who support you and hold your visions in light. Tell them that you respect them and want to ask for their advice from time to time.
  3. Go to inspirational events. I went from being afraid to ask for help to being the seminar queen. At events, you can learn success strategies and meet great mentors.
