Happy December everyone! Its hard to believe we are here. We all approach this time of year with familiar patterns and rituals, and though we step into this time feeling celebratory, stress and anxiety may also be our companions. Yoga teaches us to relax into the duality of our feelings. It gives us the tools to delve deeper inside ourselves to find the sense of peace and calm that is our constant self.
Seasonal Solstice is a wonderful reminder to embrace both the light and dark sides of our lives. In the Northern Hemisphere on December 21st, we experience our shortest day and longest night of the year. Our neighbors in the Southern Hemisphere have their longest day and shortest night.
In the practice of yoga, we learn to embrace the dynamic play of opposites. We learn to relax into a strenuous posture. We learn to breathe and feel calm in an inversion. It is this constant interaction with opposites that allows us to see the light within darkness, to find joy inside a challenging situation. Just as we become attached to seeing the world a specific way, the universe gives us a reason to see things differently, to broaden our worldview, and embrace change.
As the earth moves through her seasons of darkness and light, we too move through seasons when we may feel the absence of our true essence, we may feel hopelessness, and even despair, only to rediscover our light again. Our true nature arises and we start to see the world from a brighter viewpoint, brimming with creative potential and hope!
Let's join together in community this season. Supporting one another
along a common path toward unconditional love and freedom. Please

Peace and Joy!

Student of the Month
December
We are so excited to share with you our student of the month:
Colleen Smeekens! Colleen graces our Therapeutic classes with her wit and energy.
Always the jokester, Colleen brings her love for humor into class creating a fun filled yoga experience.
Colleen shared her thoughts about her practice.
What would you like to tell others about the practice of yoga?
Yoga is for everyone but not everyone wants yoga. Groovy! You need to be where it works. Anjali is
that for me. Our loving, spiritual guides make it an exceptional studio. Our therapeutic class allows those of us of a certain age to continue to awaken and mobilize our muscles, joints, balance, etc. ("WE AIN'T KIDS NO MORE", thank you very much Adele.) Come as you are: young and 'bendy' or not!!!
