Dear Parents / Guardians, Students, Staff, and Friends of the Sanborn Regional High School Community. Here are your latest important announcements from Sanborn Regional High School:

Red Ribbon Week
An Article by Student Assistance Counselor Amanda Feeney

Senior Spotlight : Sabrina Dixon
An Article by Science Teacher Elizabeth Richardson

Each week, our school will highlight a Sanborn senior with a tradition known as a "Senior Spotlight article". Spotlight articles are written by teachers as a way to tell the stories of all of the great things that our students are engaged in as students at Sanborn Regional High School.

Have you ever watched the series Bones? You might not realize it now, but Sabrina Dixon could solve the next serial killer case.  She loves being able to solve the puzzle of a crime, especially getting to know the mind of the perpetrator.

I met Sabrina when she was a sophomore taking Biology. She spent the year constantly asking me what we were doing in Forensics (an upper level science elective), so it was no surprise when she showed up on my Forensics roster as a junior. The classes she has most enjoyed in high school include: English, Biology, Forensics, Anatomy & Physiology, and Band.
Sabrina is outspoken and spunky. Getting to know her in science class has been a pleasure. Sabrina has come a long way in the years that I have known her. She now realizes that she can do whatever she sets her mind to and should not let anyone be the reason she misses out on something. She has become a real go-getter and is finally opening up to the many wonders this world has to offer.

Ms. Graham and Ms. Petraitis had Sabrina in their English classes over her time spent at Sanborn. In speaking with them, I learned that Sabrina loves poetry, journaling, and all things Harry Potter. Ms. Petraitis added that Sabrina is, "wise beyond her years and an incredible critical thinker. She likes to be pushed so that she can see her full potential!"

Sabrina wants to start her post-secondary education at a community college and major in criminal justice and forensic science. She loved forensics and says the course really opened her eyes beyond just the crime based television shows to see that the hands on work was more engaging and she was able to learn more from doing activities, like analyzing blood spatter and the stages of decomposition. Most importantly, Sabrina has empathy and wants to help others feel better about their situations. My words of advice for Sabrina: It's no use crying over spilt potion, in fact it might need to be sent to the lab to get tested for toxins!

Sanborn Has Best Season in Program History

From a historical sense, this season checked all the boxes for greatest in Sanborn golf history.
The 21 regular season wins don't just break the 17-year program record, but shatter the previous mark of 13 set in 2013 - which was also the last time the Indians made the postseason as a team.
"They practiced all summer to improve their game," said Sanborn coach Jeff Adams. "I'm very happy for them, they've done it all. They always say 'Congratulations coach,' but I have to tell them that they're doing all the work, not me."
While there are no clear-cut superstars, the top five of Pat Sullivan, Mack Hanisco, Keegan Branhan, Nate Leclair and Aidan McDougall have led Sanborn.
"Pat is usually the lowest man. But if one guy has a bad round, the other guys pick them up," said Adams.
The list of firsts for this year's Sanborn team is long.
Sanborn beat perennial powers Lebanon and Bow (twice) for the first time in program history. The Indians had never swept a quad-meet, but swept three in a row during the middle of the season.
This will be the third time the program qualified to be among the 10 teams competing for the state title.
The Indians will have some stiff competition on Tuesday at Owls Nest CC, but in a year of many great feats they should not be counted out.
"They certainly have a chance," said Adams.

A Message From Southern Rockingham Coalition for Youth
Did You Know?
By Annie Collyer, Chairperson, SRSD Budget Committee

Did you know that the Sanborn Regional School District Budget Committee met on October 12 with the new Business Administrator Michele Croteau, to review the format in which the Administration's spending and revenue projections for the District will be communicated this year?  Ms. Croteau has been establishing procedures for the financial order of the District, with the goal of being as transparent as possible.

The initial budget meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 1 at 6 pm in the High School library in a joint meeting of the Budget Committee and the School Board.  The public is invited to attend and/or to view the video that will be available on the SAU17 website, to be fully informed.  The Budget Committee, which has the duty to prepare and present the budget to the voters on February 7, 2018,  will hold two-three other joint meetings with the School Board to make sure the budget aligns with District goals for education, with prudent attention to the funding provided by the taxpayers of the community.  The members established their calendar of budget development meetings as well as guidelines for conducting their business.

Fitzy's Friday Night Fright Event
A Message From Community Member Julia Fitzgerald

October 28, 29 & 30 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) we'll be haunting at 37 Maple Avenue, Newton, NH. The haunt is free and open to the public, although we welcome visitors to show their appreciation in the form of donations.

This year's haunt will benefit the American Cancer Society, in honor of our dear friend  Roland Merrill, who lost his brave fight 12/1/16, a month short of his 50th birthday. We will also be  selling t-shirts, through Oct 7 to  help benefit the cause.

This year we return to the Halloween classics. We welcome you to join us to celebrate the Celtic New Year and Day of the Dead, from 6-9 each night.
Voted #4 on WMUR-TV's Top 10 Haunted Houses (appearing on the list 3 years running, ahead of some of the large commercial haunts you pay a lot of money for). And featured on NH Chronicle's 2015 Halloween edition.
Come scare if you dare!
Thanks so much!
