Pastor Berg's Message

This Advent we will hear stories that remind us what faith looks like when placed in our God. Daniel, who is saved from the lion’s den by an angel of God, stays faithful through the discipline of prayer and avoids the temptation of going along with the culture around him. Joel reminds us that it is not too late to return to this disciplined living, “even now, says the LORD, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning… (2:12).” Isaiah encourages us to remember that “[God] has sent [the savior] to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor… (61:1-2).” Read the rest of the article at
Rev Tor Berg Blog
Order forms are in the narthex! Place in the offering plate or submit to the church office.
Roger Steinke's Notes
In this season of Advent, may God’s spirit lead each of us to a deeper and more enriching Christmas experience.  My hope and prayer is that you will be ready to celebrate the birth of our Savior and experience Christmas in a meaningful new way.  May God’s gift of new life in Jesus Christ bring you Comfort and Joy!

In His Advent,
Roger

From Heaven Above! Sunday, December 18 9:45  - 10:45 am
Nearly 500 years ago Martin Luther wrote the hymn “From Heaven Above” to teach his children the story of Jesus’ birth. This worship service, led by our children, continues that tradition, using the words of the hymn to tell the world the Good News of salvation in the Christ Child.  A manger centerpiece reminds us that Jesus came from heaven above to be a lowly baby for us.  Please join us for a service of familiar Christmas carols and comforting Bible verses.  After the Service concludes, parents are invited to take “Christmas Pictures” of their children and/or families in front of the beautiful First Lutheran Church Christmas tree!  Remember to bring your cameras!

Work Party Hours! January 11 and January 25thAnytime between  10:00 A.M.-2:00 pm. (February dates are coming!)

We will be “ digitizing ” historical documents.  No skill needed.  We have the scanner, and you will just place the pages on the scanner and push the button.  It is fun and interesting to learn about the rich history of our church’ activities.  We will be archiving documents from 1909 to early l950’s in digital format.  These documents are important resources for our church members and for anyone interested in the history of the Northshore area.  They tell us about the activities of our early members, who they were and how they functioned as a church in the l900’s.  When the information is digitized, it is easily available to anyone interested in our church and in the  activities of  early  20th century history in our area.

Thank you for saving time to volunteer in our church library early next year!.

Check it Out!

Christmas Giving Tree

Our annual tradition of gift giving at Christmas to kids in our community has always been met with an overwhelming positive response and review.  The giving tree was set up November 19th in the narthex with tags for you and your family to take, buy and return with  gifts unwrapped by December 12th.   We will deliver the gifts to Hopelink, and to Compass Housing Alliance for our Easternwood Apartment children in Bothell on December 13th.   We appreciate your generosity all year long.

First Lutheran Church:
I wanted to send you a belated thank you for the wonderful gift cards you sent.
Today I received a phone call from one of our high schools that has an unaccompanied youth (does not live with parents/guardians and is on his own), he has been couch surfing.  We set him up on free breakfast and lunch and when I offered to purchase some clothing for him, he said he would go without the clothing if he could just get some gift cards to purchase food for dinner.

I immediately thought of the wonderful gift cards you had sent us and sent them to his counselor to give to him.  His counselor said he would be so happy, as you well know, a teenage boy is constantly hungry.  So being able to provide him the means to go get some food for dinner was huge.  And we can still get him the clothing he so desperately needs.

So, I apologize for not thanking you sooner. Time passed by so quickly and when the school called me today, it reminded me of your generosity.

With that said, I wanted to give you a huge "thank you" and to give you an example of how much these donations are worth.  They are worth so much more then the monetary amount, they will bring this student some comfort and take away a little bit of the stress he is under. Something that no young man should have to be going through.
Thanks again.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action).

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
