Principal's Pen
I pray that each of you had a blessed Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful Grandparent's Day and we so appreciate the support of family here at Shepherd. Thank you so much to all who contributed to such a special day. This is a busy month here at Shepherd! Our ELC-8 grade Christmas program is coming up as well as a music concert! It is such a joy to see the excitement of Christmas in our students and to see the world through their eyes!

I will be sending out some information specifically to our Pre-K parents regarding Kindergarten Info Night, to be held on Thursday, January 12 at 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. Please mark this on your calendar as we present why we are different than public school and why we are highly accredited compared to other programs. Hope to see each of you there and thank you for your consideration.

Coffee Chat with Mrs. Jennings will be Tuesday, December 13 in the Great Hall.

A few procedural reminders :
Please do not get out of your car in the pick-up lane after school. If you need or wish to get out of your car, you must park in a parking space. The pick-up lane is specifically for drive through pick-up only. It creates backed up traffic on University and creates a safety issue when we have parked cars or individuals out of their cars in the pick-up lane.

Good News!
Here's how your past child care contributions (ELC) served the needs of the church this past fiscal year:
  • $67,891 was applied to help offset the ELC's fixed overhead costs.
  • The preschool remodeling loan was paid down $20,000.

That's $87,891 that went back to the general fund! What a blessing and a benefit! And the generous donors of those funds received a benefit, too. The Colorado Child Care Credit provides a 50% tax credit against your state income tax liability along with the existing tax benefits of a charitable deduction. Please be sure to pick up an informative flyer from the usher stands.

Jack's Corner

JACK'S CORNER

QUESTION:  Every night is a battle to get my 2nd grade son to do his homework.  I get so frustrated and angry; it ruins the night for the whole family.  Any suggestions?

ANSWER:  I firmly believe that struggles with children are opportunities for God to transform parents.  Sadly, we parents usually don't want, nor do we often seize these opportunities.  Here is an opportunity for you to understand and empathize with the heart of God.  We are God's children.  We wound him deeply by our refusal to live how we should.  Our rebellion springs out of childish defiance and selfishness.  There are many reasons why we are call "children" of God.  One of the opportunities God provides for parents is to watch our own sinful foolishness lived out in the actions and attitudes of our children.  In an event as common as battling over homework, God gives parents an opportunity for........
