Entr'acte resumes this Sunday;  Fr Hanson will continue a four part Entr'acte series on the Trinitarian Controversies which took place during the first four centuries of the Church's history. That's at 10:20 in the Library.
"Greening" Beacon Hill

Help Make Beacon Hill Beautiful - This Sunday, December 4, 2 to 5 pm - Hanging of the Greens - Every December our neighbors on Beacon Hill volunteer to decorate over 1,000 gas lamps that adorn our streets. Would you like to gather a group of Advent folks to hang garlands and bows on the lamps on our street from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, December 4? If so, contact [email protected]. Seek the good of the city where I have sent you . . . (Jer. 29.7)

Care Packages for the Military

Help Make Care Packages for American Troops-Saturday, December 10, from 10 am-Noon in Moseley Hall.   A group of parishioners is gathering to make care packages for American troops on Saturday, December 10, from 10:00 until Noon in Moseley Hall.  Can you help?  We need volunteers to (1) donate, (2) write letters to include in the care packages, and (3) help put the packages together.  For a list of items to donate, or to volunteer, please contact Emily Vickers (email:  [email protected] ; telephone:  617-959-4444).  For more info about the organization this mission opportunity supports, visit  https://www.operationgratitude.com .

Gifts for Tuesday Night Dinner Guests ...
coffee_table.jpg As we did last year, guests at the Tuesday Evening Community Dinner will be given  Gift Cards to Dunkin' Donuts  as their Christmas gift from the Advent. This will allow them to go to a warm place and get hot coffee and something to eat during the cold months of winter.  If you wish to make a donation-and we hope you do-send it in marked  Donuts.

... And Others in Need
baby-girl-crib.jpg
Every year stuffed animals and infants' clothing are presented at the crèche during the 4:30 pm Mass on Christmas Eve.   This year these donations will be given to the Fragment Society, who, since their inception in 1812, have been distributing clothes to Boston's poor and needy.  They are especially in need of infant clothing and small stuffed animals to include in the more than 400 layettes that volunteer ladies involved in the organization assemble each year.

Help Serve Dinner at Epiphany School

Volunteers Needed - Help the Advent serve dinner at Epiphany School on Thursday, January 12.   One way the Advent loves our city is by volunteering to serve dinner at the Epiphany School, an independent, tuition-free middle school in Dorchester for children of economically disadvantaged families from Boston neighborhoods.  The Advent will serve dinner to the kids at Epiphany on Thursday January 12, and we need 4-7 volunteers to be there from 3:45-6:00 pm.  Dinnertime at Epiphany is a wonderful opportunity for students, families, and volunteers to work together to create a nutritious meal.  Please contact Kara Rodgers ( [email protected] ) if you can serve.

Stewardship 2017
The returns for the 2017 Canvass continue to arrive. Thanks to everyone who pledged so far!

As of this past Thursday we have received 137 pledges, pledging a total of $359,186.  45 have increased their pledges by 18%, and there are 9 new pledges.  We have still to hear from 94 parishioners who pledged a total of $175,670 last year.

The Stewardship Committee thanks all who have made a pledge so far If you have not yet pledged, please do so soon.

If you did not receive a  2017 stewardship packet in the mail, there are Stewardship brochures and pledge cards on the tables at the rear of the Church. And you can pledge on line by going to the parish website www.theadventboston.org and clicking the "Pledge Online" button.

This email highlights just a few of the items in this week's announcements. For much more, go to http://www.theadventboston.org/announcements/.

Sunday's Collect
Merciful God, who sent thy messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Collect for the Season:

Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
