ST. PAUL'S BOOK GROUP

7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7th at The Rectory

The November selection for St. Paul's Book Group is
The Story of the Other Wise Man by Henry Van Dyke.

During the time of the birth of Jesus, a fourth Wise Man,
Artaban, sells all his possessions to buy three precious jewels which he hopes to present to the newborn Christ Child. Although he planned to journey with the other three Magi to Bethlehem, he is delayed and fails to rendezvous with them. Artaban spends his whole life searching for the Christ, and in his search he gives away one, then two, and finally all three of his jewels to help others, but in the end his quest is fulfilled in unexpected ways. Although written more than a century ago, this is still a topical Christmas story for young and old that captures the true spirit of Christmas.

We will have a Yankee Swap of books that night. We encourage everyone to bring a new or gently used, wrapped book to be a part of the swap. In addition, we will discuss your favorite Christmas themed book and enjoy some seasonal games. The discussion of The Story of the Other Wise Man will be brief, so please come  for the other activities in the festively decorated rectory even if you don't read the book.   We look forward to seeing you there.

CAROLS & CANDLELIGHT

A Special Program for Carols, Readings,

Carols and Candlelight will combine the choral and instrumental resources of St. Paul's to create a program that features many of the season's favorite Christmas Carols for everyone to sing. The carols will be interspersed with anthems from the adult and children's choir and both sacred and secular Christmas readings. The event is free and is open to everyone of all denominations.

CHRISTMAS FLOWER MEMORIALS

We are in the pr oce ss of putting together the leaflets for Christ m as and planning the decoration of the church. Flowers used to beautify the church will be ordered for Christmas, and are paid for by Christmas Flower donations made by our members. A special list will be printed to acknowledge that flowers were given in memory or thanksgiving of a loved one. The customary donation is $10.00 per name. Flower forms (look for Green!) are located at the back of the church and under the bulletin board in the library. Please include your payment with your completed form. This will help facilitate the process by having both the form and payment together.

Checks should be made out to St. Paul's Church.

The deadline for submission of names is
Friday, December 16, 2016

We remember today, O Lord, all those who have served in our Armed Forces and commend them to you for their bravery, their patriotism, and their honor. We ask that those who serve our country today may be kept in your everlasting love and that comfort and encouragement might be given to their families. We pray for peace and ask that your holy will might prevail among all people, and your name be exalted forever.

We pray for our Bishops Alan Gates and Gayle Harris.

Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.
