President's Message

To all BCGS members and friends:

Here I am standing with my chest puffed out, full of pride for my Bucks County Genealogical Society!  On November 12, a year's worth of work bloomed into our BEST EVER Ancestry Fair! The speakers were amazing and the reviews glowing. Buckets of thanks to every Board member, Ancestry Fair committee member, and to the high school volunteers from Council Rock High School North, Newtown and Pennridge High School, Perkasie.

If you missed it, we're sorry! It was an outstanding day of education, entertainment and networking. The venue was just perfect. In addition to work, the team really enjoyed themselves. Seriously consider joining the team next year and be on the inside enjoyment!

Mary C. Butash, President

About the speaker:
Tom Myers is the author of numerous books indexing and abstracting Bucks County records, including Will Abstracts 1825-1870 and 1870-1900, Orphans' Court Records 1685-1852 and 1852-1900, and Miscellaneous Deed Dockets 1785-1857 and 1857-1900.  He is the Query Coordinator for the Bucks County Genealogical Society, and his donation to the BCGS of records he transcribed as a volunteer for the Bucks County Historical Society provided the initial basis for the Bucks County Database now available to the public on our website.

FAMILY TREE MAKER UPDATE

The publisher of Family Tree Maker (FTM), The Software MacKiev Company, is finalizing a free update patch for FTM 2014 and Mac 3. FTM still works with Ancestry so you still get the "shaky leaf" hints and can still sync your FTM tree with Ancestry.

If you want to be notified when the update patch is available, go to   www.familytreemaker.com  and sign up for the FTM mailing list.

BEGINNERS CORNER

Don't miss an opportunity to talk to your family about genealogy during Thanksgiving gatherings. Here is a helpful conversation starter from Ancestry.com:

RESEARCH TIP

From GenealogyInTime Magazine:

" FamilySearch.org has indexed an additional 213,000 records from the New Jersey state census of 1865. This is a good census to check even if you don't think you had ancestors living in New Jersey. ...many immigrants who landed at Ellis Island ended up living in nearby New Jersey for a while before ultimately migrating somewhere else in America. They may have been captured in this census. These census records can be searched by first name and last name. Access is free. [ New Jersey 1865 State Census]"
