General Membership Meeting
 
Our next Alumni General Membership meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 10, 2016, 6pm-7:30pm, in the McDonogh 35 Library, 4000 Cadillac Street, located on the first floor. (This is a change of date from the first Thursday of the month meeting date due to the McD35 vs. Karr football game that is scheduled). As always, please contact fellow Roneagles and either bring them with you or encourage them to attend and become an official paid member of the McDonogh 35 Alumni Association. 
   
McDonogh 35 vs. Karr Football Game

McD35 vs. Karr, 7pm Thursday, Nov.3 at Behrman Stadium on the Westbank. This game has playoff implications. Due contractual obligations of Karr being the home team, tickets will only be sold at the gate. It is highly recommended that you arrive at the stadium early if you wish to attend the game as Behrman Stadium has limited seating capacity. Let's come out to support the Roneagle Football Team and Supporting Organizations!

To be a successful organization, the Alumni Association must have working committees. We have done a reorganization of the working committees. Please consider joining one of the listed committees below. Descriptions of the duties of the committees can be accessed by clicking here.

Any active member may join at any time. We can only be successful as our membership participates in activities that promote our organization goal of "Giving Back and Paying Forward".
 
McDonogh 35 License Plate

The McDonogh 35 License Plate is just few steps away from becoming a reality. Below is a sample representation of the license plate with the Roneagle image. Only the school name will appear across the bottom of the plate.

 
The Iron Edition Newsletter   
 
Our McDonogh 35 now has a monthly newsletter operated by the students. Ms Lauren Blouin, McD35 instructor serves as the advisor to the publication and our alumni member Wanda Romain, serves as the historian. Click here to see the October edition.
First Quarter school Activities and Accomplishments 

McDonogh 35 has gotten off to a great academic and operation start for the 2016-17 school year. Principal John Green and his staff have provided us with a list of accomplishments and activities that have taken place thus far. Click here to view.
Centennial Celebration

The  centennial celebration committee is continuously planning activities for McDonogh 35 100th year celebration.  Fund raisers and other activities are ongoing.  For more information or to participate on this committee please email mcdonogh35alumniassociation@yahoo.com. Metro DC Affiliate Chapter  

The 2016-2017 Metro DC Affiliate Chapter officers, pictured left, are:

Buy a Brick  
 


The Alumni Association is selling commemorative bricks that will be installed in the school courtyard. Bricks cost $135 each and should include your n ame and graduating year. There is a 3-line maximum with 21 characters per line. The deadline to order is Nov 30th. We are currently updating our website so you can order your brick online. Online ordering will be available by November 4th. In the interim, you can mail a check payable to McDonogh 35 Alumni Association for $135.00. Please include "brick" in memo section along with a note of what you want on your brick.

Roneagle in the News 
 


Dr. Kerry Eric Sterling is a proud native of New Orleans, LA and 1993 Honor Graduate of McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School. He attended Xavier University of LA, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Biology. Due to his strong community involvement he received the "1997 Victor Labat Service Award"; this is the highest distinction award of community service bestowed upon a graduating senior. While at Xavier, Kerry played a significant role in student life as he was recognized as the Student Government Association "Man of the Year" 1995 and 1997. He also is a member of the Fall 1995 Line of the Beta Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. After his undergraduate matriculation, he completed his graduate studies at Barry University in Miami Shores, FL where he received his Master's of Science degree in Biomedical Science.
 
Dr. Sterling returned to New Orleans to begin his professional career in academia. He was appointed to a full time faculty position with the Department of Biology at his alma mater. He was the youngest faculty member on staff at Xavier. He taught courses in General Biology, Microbiology, and Anatomy & Physiology.  
 
Later, he turned his chalk board and easers for a scalpel and stethoscope and began his medical training at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He had significant involvement in the Student National Medical Association where he served as Chapter President 2002-2003. During his administration the LSU-NO SNMA Chapter was recognized as the "Most Improved Chapter" in Regional III and later "Chapter of the Year/ Regional III" at the 2005 National Convention held in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Sterling received the honor of being nominated by the House of Delegates for National President-Elect at the 2003 National Convention held in Washington, D.C.
           
Dr. Sterling has trained at one of the premier Family Medicine Residencies in Rural Medicine at LSU-Bogalusa. He has participated in several health fairs throughout Washington Parish, the North Shore, and New Orleans. He has a special interest in patient education of the management and prevention of Diabetes Mellitus Type II, Hypertension, and Prostate Cancer. He has given several community talks and presentations at the Association for Improvement of Minorities/ IRS New Orleans Chapter, the Star Hill Baptist Church - Baton Rouge, LA, and the Cornerstone United Methodist Church - New Orleans, LA.
           
Dr. Sterling has served as an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He has been on staff at Avoyelles , Ochsner and Tulane Hospitals. He is the Owner and CEO of the Sterling Family Medicine Clinic, LLC located at 1831 Rousseau Street, New Orleans, LA in the Lower Garden District. He provides service for both children and adults.
In his spare time he mentors to college and high school students who have an interest in the health professions. Kerry enjoys cinematography, dancing and spending time with family and friends.

RENEW YOUR DUES

The Association's Fiscal Year is from October 1- September 30. You may now pay your 2016-17 Alumni Dues via PayPal. Yearly Membership dues are $35 and Lifetime Membership dues are $350. Lifetime Membership dues may also be paid in five $70 installment payments. Also when you pay please put your graduating year in the comment section   (and, if you are paying with your business account, your first & last name as well).  Please pay by clicking on the appropriate PayPal button below.

Your 2015-16 dues payment allowed us to provide support to our Fair 35 in a variety of ways!  This past school year, your investment has afforded us the opportunity to award $3,000 to seniors who applied and were interviewed for the Alumni Association's Scholarships.  Also, additional funds of over $2.000.00 were provided for school and student support, to include the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Academy and awards for students at the inaugural honors breakfast through our Soaring to Excellence initiative. Our ability to fund these programs was made possible by our active members.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS MUST BE PAID IN THE SAME FISCAL YEAR. IF INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS ARE NOT RECEIVED BY SEPT. 30, 2016,  THE PAYMENTS MADE, LESS 15-16, DUES WILL BE REALLOCATED TO SCHOLARSHIPS.
