Incarnation--the BIGGER reason for the season!

'St. Francis' understanding of God influenced the theologian Bonaventure. It is Bonaventure who helps us understand more clearly the integral relationship between creation and Incarnation... This relationship is important to understand because when we talk about solar energy, complex sugars, insects and plant-eating animals, we are ultimately talking about God. Life's essentials do not simply "appear;" they have an origin...

'Bonaventure described the created universe as the Fountain Fullness of God's expressed being. As God expresses Godself in creation, creation--in turn--expresses the Creator... All of creation--rocks, trees, stars, plants, animals and humans--in some way reflect the power, wisdom and goodness of the Trinity. God shines through creation and the face of God is reflected in creation precisely by the way things express themselves. Creation therefore is a mirror of God...

'Because the world expresses the Word through whom all things are made (John 1:1 reminds us: " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."), every creation is in itself a "little word" of God... every aspect of creation is a "little Incarnation" of the divine Word...'
